I think I’ve mentioned before that I have a German Shepherd, and I may have mentioned she’s black, but I know I haven’t told you I have terracotta coloured carpets downstairs and pale blue in my bedroom. As you can imagine the dog hairs make a bold contrast particularly about now when she is moulting. I’ve had Shepherds for 25 years and have worked my way through many vacuum cleaners in the pursuit of perfection leaving many failures and burnt out motors in my wake.
I had my first Dyson quite a bit back, the turbo, which was quite a decent cleaner but it died during an accidental fall down the stairs. My insurance company replaced it with a comparable model which after a bit of animated discussion turned out to be the DC20 Animalpro.
It’s a cylinder model although Dyson describes it as a stowaway sledge (I’ve already got a dog and definitely don’t like to think of reindeer romping through my house).
The Animal is compact. Much more so than the old cylinder model. The hose wraps tidily around the cleaner. Dyson have moved away from the nasty purple colour to a cleaner that is now mainly grey with amber and red highlights. The retracting power cord is better made than the old cleaner and retracts all the way in without coaxing .
The animal is the same model as the DC20 Allergy except it also has a turbine head, a mini turbine head and a hard floor tool. You can also purchase an extra head for £15..It has the same filters as the DC20 Allergy. It will cost you around £250
*Facts and figures*
The Animal is 14 in x 10 in x 16 in and weighs in at about 20 lb. The bag less container holds 2 litres and the cable is about 7 yard (6.5 metres). The maximum reach of the cleaner from the plug is 33 feet (10 metres)Like most Dyson’s it has the cyclone effect and it has the Lifetime HEPA filter plus the bacteria and mould killing screen, Bactisafe. These filters are classed as lifetime and the air that comes out of the exhaust is supposedly clean. The tools are stored onboard and the bin is clear so you can see just how much dirt is sucked up .It has a 5 year guarantee and is built more solidly than my old Dyson.
*The heads:
*The Turbine*
This is the main head, It has a brush bar that can be turned off on laminate, hard floors or delicate carpets. It sucks up the dog hairs really well needing to go over an area really once, but it doesn’t like cotton or my hair which is on the long side and gets wrapped around the brush bar. It’s a good thing I don’t moult as badly as the dog, for not only would I be bald, but the cut out stops the bar. This does prevent any overheating but it can be a pain in the neck if you are in a rush and the last person to use the cleaner pout it away without clearing the head.
*The mini turbine*
This is what it says… a small version. I use this for removing hair from furniture, the stairs (its easier to manoeuvre) and in the car. Its also good for getting into spaces the big head wont fit, down the side of furniture
*The hard floor tool*
This head has long bristles so it’s a bit like a soft broom that sucks. It’s good for laminate, and kitchen and bathroom floors.. One word of warning though, if you clean over something wet it can leave dirty streaks
*The up top tool *
This is the extra head you can purchase for £15. It is small and narrow and ideal in the car as the head twists so you can get into hard to reach places like under the front seats
*Other tools*
You also get the traditional flat sucker, useful for dry spills and a flat, long sucker
*In use*
The Animal in use is a fairly quiet machine. It follows you along quite happily and it takes no effort. I am able to reach all the way up the stairs from the plug at the bottom. The machine isn’t heavy so you can hold it as you go up if you like but it will rest sideways on a stair if you stand behind to support it (the lack of support is what killed my last Dyson) .
The selection of heads is good but it would’ve been nice to include the extra head as the machine certainly isn’t a cheap one. The cord retract is certainly much less flimsy than the old one and it whips back in. the heads are easy to detach and reattach and the bin is easy to empty and replace. the build quality of this machine in general is much improved.
*Cleaning*
The DC20 Animalpro is excellent at its job. It rarely needs to go over an area twice. It takes little effort to use it and it stores away tidily. The tool selection is good and the turbine heads really do get up all the dog hair. The clear cyclone bin means you get a good look at the filth that’s being removed, which is hardly attractive but it does encourage you to empty it regularly.
It does struggle a little with long hair or thread when it wraps round the brush but it is easy to remove and it is a problem with moist cleaners that have a revolving brush .It is expensive and it may not have bee the model I chose if I had been buying myself for that reason but I am glad I have it. It has made my life easier and my house and car cleaner. It’s not very old yet so it’s too soon to tell how well it will stand up to daily use and many, many hairs so I will update this in a few more months and feedback any problems

Advantages: Compact. Simple to use. Everything to hand. Brush turbine tool.
Disadvantages: Not One found in 6 months of use.
Dyson DC20 Animal Stowaway Pro : This Vacuum cleaner is 'THE BEST' I have ever used/owned. It beats the Kirby every time, cost wise, It out performs every other vacuum I have ever tried, as a Decorator I operate many clients vac's, none come close to the Dyson for efficient dust and paper collection.
The brush floor tool is absolutely brilliant, whether you have pets or not.. just get one... it cleans right to the very edge of the carpet... no more ... ...exactly like that so its unobtrusive. All the tools are attatched to the vac, in easy reach.. not shoved in a cupboard, just press a button to disconnect the cleaning head, slip on the attatchment and hey presto... nuf sed!
Just get one, you wont prove me wrong!

Suction? No - DYSON SUCTION!
Review of Dyson DC 20 Animal PRO by
kia_picanto
Advantages: One of the best in the market, whether you have pets or not.
Disadvantages: Two tools are not carried on the machine.
...I used to have a dyson DC04 Absolute, which served me very well in my old house. My old house had mainly carpets so it really did the job well and the 230 air watts were very impressive for its generation and kept the cleaner sucking for a good 8 years until I gave it away to a friend yesterday. The reason it got given away was because in my new house I've only got hard floors and rugs (apart from when I get a new stair carpet in the future). The ... ...apart from my getting the dyson out once in a while to give the rugs a good clean. But ever since I have been saving up for a dyson DC20, and it arrived today from www.duck.co.uk and I've not been let down in the slightest. The new Root Cyclone technology it really great. With the old Dual Cyclone technology, you could tell that a lot of fint dust was getting pulled out of the airflow with the single, large inner cyclone, but the pre-motor filter ...

Ideal if a pet lives with you!
Review of Dyson DC 20 Animal PRO by
lovefairy
Advantages: easy, fast
Disadvantages: weight
I have decided to buy this powerful, ultra special super version for the hair of animals and the allergies!
Result: narcotic!
The vacuum cleaner is equipped of two brushes in equipment, one that joins perfectly to the floor..(it's like nearly glue)very slim in order to clean up under furnitures and the bed; other more strong for floors and carpets, with a system of rotary brushes that are adapted to the surface to clean up.
More other small accessories ... ...space on the apparatus is previewed and that therefore they are always perfectly to hand capacity.
Telescopic handle, automatic wrapping up cable, interchanging brushes all in least space (once closed remain in less than a meter), ideal for the daily cleaning.
Then, found exceptional, the vacuum cleaner does not lose aspiration and not there are neither filters neither bags to change (problem that instead I had punctually with Hoover!)!!!

Dyson DC20, First Impressions Fabulous.
Review of Dyson DC 20 Animal PRO by
ddwhite
Advantages: Highly effective, good range of tools, quiet.
Disadvantages: Can't store on end.
...with a free set of Dyson tools, so that took care of the cost problem. However, having now used the DC20 I would pay around £210 for it.
Out of the box it felt like a good quality piece of kit. Has a decent volume container for the dirt (unlike many other cleaners of similar dimensions) and most of the tools fit on the cleaner easily and firmly. Additional tools that are included must be stored seperately, but this is not a problem as there is such ... ...Performance: Scarily Excellent! Even though we vacuum often the DC20 picked up large amounts of previously "invisible" cat hair even though I had only cleaned the day before. Also picked up very fine dirt from where our weekly cleaner had also used her industrial Vax the previous day! Great at getting under furniture and right to the edge of carpets.
From early use it doesn't seem as if there is going to be a problem in getting clogged up which ...

Animal by name aminal by nature
Review of Dyson DC 20 Animal PRO by
medman
Advantages: Excellent performance, easy to use
Disadvantages: a little awkward to put together initially but woth the effort
I bought one of these a couple of months ago to replace an old hoover. I have to admit I did agonise over the price for a while, and I'm a natural born sceptic when it comes to manufacturers claims. After all they all make the best on the market don't they? So when I got it home and unpacked it I was somewhat taken aback by the myriad of parts in the box. Once I'd figured out how it all went together, and it took a while, I realised that the huffing ... ...minutes to put together and another 10 to work out the storage system, which, of course, some will laugh at, but hey we can't all be technically minded. However in performance I don't think you can beat it. It has settings for both carpets and floors. Although the tool kit is basic the tools are very useful and robust, this combined with the level of suction means that cleaning all those nooks and crannies is easily done. The suction on both settings ...
