All of these offer protection against UVA and UVB, so what’s UVA and UVB? Before you choose a sunscreen there are a few things you must know about your skin and sun protection. This may be a little boring but believe me it's VERY IMPORTANT. Just ... ...1,you may need to use E45 sun block lotion with SPF 50, but if you are skin type 4, then E45 Lotion with SPF 15 would be enough. Skin type 5 and 6 do not need to use a sunscreen to avoid sunburn, unless there is a medical reason for sun protection. However to avoid long term effects a milder sun screen would still be useful for dark skin people.
Summer, holidays, beach, sun, bells are ringing and it’s time to get rid of some extra clothes and enjoy the mother nature in the most natural way you can. Well it depends upon you, how much you want to take off depending upon certain factors (you know very well) but it certainly is time to enjoy the sun.
The temptation of getting a tan in the sun is irresistible and we all know that sun protection is a must; so don’t forget to use a sunscreen while you are in the sun teasing others. I prefer E 45 sun block lotions; they are very good, tested and proven products. The three main ranges are
· Sun E45 lotion UVB-SPF 15 (£ 5.52 for 150 ml) · Sun E45 lotion UVB-SPF 25 (£ 5.92 for 150 ml) · E 45 sun block lotion UVB-SPF 50. (£ 6.35 for 150 ml)
All of these offer protection against UVA and UVB, so what’s UVA and UVB? Before you choose a sunscreen there are a few things you must know about your skin and sun protection. This may be a little boring but believe me it's VERY IMPORTANT. Just think for a minute that despite the fact that nearly every person uses some form of sun protection in Europe and the incident of SKIN CANCER is still increasing, the main cause being exposure to sunlight. WHY?
Understanding your skin type and knowing what type of skin protection is best for you can really make a difference. So here are a few facts that you should know.
** ULTRA VOILET RAYS **
There are two types of UV rays that are harmful to your skin.
~~ UVA ~~
These are long wave length rays (310-400 nm), which do not cause sun burn but has long term effects and can cause skin reactions and skin damage leading to skin diseases and cancer. It’s important to know that most of the fancy sunscreens, which are transparent and non-messy, do not give protection against UVA.
~~ UVB ~~
These are medium wave length rays (210-310 nm) responsible for the sunburn, wrinkles, ageing and contribute to the development of skin cancer as well. Every sunscreen offers protection against UVB and it’s the SPF that determines the level of protection offered.
** SPF **
Every sun screen is graded according to it’s SPF.SPF is the sun protection factor that tells us the level of protection offered by that sun screen. (Only against UVB). For example a SPF 25 means that your skin is 25 times longer protected in the sun as compared to normal skin with out any sunscreen.
** SKIN TYPES **
It’s very important to know your skin type in order to decide what product you are going to use.
Skin types are broadly divided into 6 types.
· Skin type 1 ~ Which always burn and never tans. · Skin type 2 ~ Burns most of the time and sometimes tans. · Skin type 3 ~ Tans most of the time and sometimes burn. · Skin type 4 ~ Always tans and never burns. · Skin type 5 and 6 ~ Dark coloured skin.
Now for example If you are skin type 1,you may need to use E45 sun block lotion with SPF 50, but if you are skin type 4, then E45 Lotion with SPF 15 would be enough. Skin type 5 and 6 do not need to use a sunscreen to avoid sunburn, unless there is a medical reason for sun protection. However to avoid long term effects a milder sun screen would still be useful for dark skin people.
Now back to the product.
*** E45 SUN BLOCK LOTIONS ***
The three main products are
· Sun E45 lotion UVB-SPF 15 · Sun E45 lotion UVB-SPF 25 · E 45 sun block lotion UVB-SPF 50
You can choose the best sunscreen according to your skin type. They all contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide with increasing concentration according to the higher SPF. Titanium dioxide is the one that gives you protection against UVA. It makes the sunscreen less transparent and there is always a tendency to use sunscreens with out this as they are cosmetically more acceptable but they give lesser protection, so always use a sunscreen, which gives you protection against both UVA and UVB like E45 sun lotions.
They are all water-resistant, so you don't have to refresh every time you take a dip. The smell is ok and the feel is not bad, not as good as some transparent ones but then they don't offer the same protection. Stays on for pretty long.
~~~ EXCIPIENTS ~~~
- Hydrooxybenzoates (Parabens) and Isopropyl palmitate . These are the substances present in these sunscreens that can cause allergic skin reaction, so if you are allergic to any of these then you should avoid products including these. You can find this information in the included leaflet.
*** WHEN AND HOW TO USE ***
- Apply it on all exposed areas before going out in sun. - Refresh it if you stay longer in sun, spend too much time in water even if you are using water-resistant sunscreen, and especially if you are near ice or water as they increase the effect of sun due to reflection. - During these hours, 11AM to 3 PM, be careful even if the weather is cloudy because the intensity of sunrays is still the same and at it's highest. - If you have any skin condition that is caused, provoked or aggravated by sun make sure you use sunscreen most of the time, even if you are indoors as sunlight can effect through window glass as well. - Don't be tempted by the fancy, transparent sunscreens. They may be cosmetically more acceptable but offer less protection. I think E45 lotions are one of the best.
** CAUTION **
Nearly all sun screens can cause an allergic skin reaction due to the chemicals used in manufacturing, so if you get a reaction, make sure you don’t use any product with same contents.
** ON PRESCRIPTION **
E45 sun lotions are not only cosmetic products but they are also considered as border line drugs, so if you have any condition that may warrant absolute sun protection, you can get this on prescription also.
I'd like to mention a very common condition for which you can get this. Recurrent Herpes labialis (cold sores). It's pretty common and I have already read a number of ops from Ciao members with this condition. Cold sores can be precipitated by sunlight hence you are entitled to this for the prevention of cold sores.
Not only I like and prefer E 45 sun screen lotions, but they are tested and proven products, and are one of those sun screens that are prescribed by Dermatologists as well.
Apart from the E 45 lotions the few facts that I have mentioned above are general and if you have any query, you are most welcome.
Advantages: Absorbs easily, replenishes lost moisture Disadvantages: none
When you are out flaunting yourself on the beaches and in the pools of your holiday destinations this year, remember that day protection is only half of the key to a successful tan once you are home.
How often have you come out of the sun during the day and felt itchy? You ignore it and just feel it is tightness from the day of toiling on the sand.
You need to use an after sun to replace the moisture lost during the day. Otherwise that glorious tan you spent so much money to achieve will flake off 2 days after your return.
I have applied aftersun now for about 15 years, even during days in our British sun and think I must have tried most of the brands.
I have now found the ideal brand and want to share it with you.
E45 After Sun Lotion is by far the best at replacing the skin's natural defences.
E45 have been reknowned for years ...
Advantages: Really good value Disadvantages: can't think of any
Cheap sun cream just doesn't seem to exist and I spend a fortune every summer on the E45sun cream as I find other suncreams don't really agree with my sensitive skin and I tend to turn into a bit of a British lobster on the beach. But I have found a site called chemistdirect.co.uk which sells the factor 15 and 30 cream for a staggering £1.99 and considering I usually pay just under a tenner I thought this was a really good saving. Have checked out the site in case it was dodgy cos it seemed too good to be true but they sent me some stuff and it all arrived on time and in one piece.
Would def recommend it to everyone before they hit the beech this summer ...
Advantages: Soothes and softens skin Disadvantages: Quite expensive; a bit greasy
is suitable for the whole family and is so gentle on skin that even babies can use it.
OTHER PRODUCTS IN THE E45 RANGE...
In addition to the Moisturising Lotion, there are a range of other E45 products available. These include:
E45 Itchy Relief Cream (50g tube costs £1.83 at most supermarkets);
E45 Emollient Bath Oil (250ml costs £3.48 at Asda);
E45 Junior Foaming Bath Milk;
E45 Dry Scalp Shampoo; and
E45SunLotion.
CONCLUSION
Overall, I cannot really fault E45 Moisturising Lotion at all. Although it probably isn't the cheapest of lotions, its hypo-allergenic formulation makes it ideal for everyone, even those with sensitive skin. I would certainly buy this again and will undoubtedly try some of the other products in the range.
