ELC Happyland The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Set

I was very excited when I saw this Diamond Jubilee figurine set in The Early Learning Centre and had to get it for my little girl. I think The Early Learning Centre are really good at producing very topical toys, of course for them its a great money maker but I think it adds to the spirit of the time and the celebration and is a really nice way of including your kids in this country's history and a great way of teaching them about being patriotic and proud to be British. We purchased a Royal Wedding Happyland set last year and also a Great Britain set for the Olympics and so this Diamond Jubilee little set is a great addition to our collection.

We collect Happyland figures and sets in our house anyway. I really like them as they are well made toys, lots of fun to play with and very imaginative and provide my little girl with lots of fun things to play with and make up stories with. The Happyland figures are quite a bit bigger than say Lego figures and are meant for very young children, I would say aged 1 and above. THe figures are chunky and hardwearing and perfect for kids who still put toys in their mouths.

In truth we actually already have a few Queen figures now as one came with The Royal Wedding set and also the Great Britain set and we have a corgi dog too so in reality all we got was this lovely looking cake. It was actually the box I was after that the toys came in as although I do let my little girl play with these toys I also keep the boxes, thinking that they might be a collectors item in a number of years, who knows.

Anyway, like I've said above the set is only small but thats why the price tag of just £5 is very fitting. There is a Queen of course, its her party this year, 60 years in the making. The Queen is looking very regal and red, white and blue in her blue sash and red crown. Its actually frightening how much this little plastic figure actually looks like HRH Elizabeth 2nd. They've even got the curve of her grey hair correct underneath the crown!!

The corgi is very cute looking and is in a sitting down position with his shaggy hair falling down over his legs. The cake is the only item we didn't have before. This is a three tiered cake sitting on a cake stand with a tablecloth sitting on the stand. This is again in the theme colours of blue and red and looks very yummy. This set is fun to play with by walking the dog with the queen or serving up some of the cake at tea and cake time.

It's a wonderful little toy perfect for this years celebrations!
