"EPCOT - Around the world in a day or Two"

EPCOT (Disney Theme Park)

EPCOT stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, This is the second Disney theme park built at Orlando Florida. Epcot is split into two large areas one area dedicated to international culture (WORLD SHOWCASE) and the other dedicated to technological innovation.(FUTURE WORLD). EPCOT was opened on October 1 1982.

You can get to EPCOT by the Disneyworld Free bus's, Car or monorail. The Monorail also travels between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT good for jumping from pack to park.

Opening Times? and Admission costs?

EPCOT is open all year including Christmas Day. Opening times change from day to day so the best thing to do is check out the Disneyworld website which will give you times. Or your hotel should help you with this. We did find that Future world opened earlier than the world showcase but this area stayed open later.

We had an 14 days pass which was in our Virgin package deal so can't really comment on this many different companies have deals which you can buy so i would hunt around for a good price. Try your local travel agents or your local disney store.

This area is the first you come to when you go into EPCOT, the dancing fountains are a centre piece here as well as the Giant golf ball.

Test Track - This Ride is super, one of my favourite here at Epcot, Your a test dummy in a car and must test out all elements involved i.e. testing car breaks, speed, and many other fun surprises. You do not control the car.

Ellen's Energy Adventure - 30 minutes long, we by passed this so many times and just came across this one day and tried it out and was surprised that we enjoyed it. The story is all told by Ellen who teaches you about where energy comes from.

Spaceship Earth - I have lost count how many times we have been on this, my children seem to love this. This ride goes up inside the Gigantic Ball which is the symbol of EPCOT. You sit in little cars which takes you on a journey looking at communication and how it has changed over the years.

The Living Seas - This is an Aquarium, What a brilliant area, we spent ages here. There is more than 2,000 sea creatures here including fish, manatees, dolphins and Sharks. Many hands on things for the children to do as well as learning about the ocean.

Circle of Life - This is a movie show with characters from the Lion King which tells the story of the circle of life and how important it is for humans to respect this and help the world around us. Was very long and the children did find it very hard to understand.

Food Rocks A show about food and Nutrition, this was quite boring i am afraid. My children wasn't impressed.

The Land - This is a building which is shaped like a greenhouse, everything inside focus's on food.

Living with the Land This is a boat trip with a tour guide. You explore the greenhouses at EPCOT which include giant vegetables. The veg etc from here is served to guests in EPCOTS resturants. This was very interesting, my children were surprised to see a greenhouse in EPCOT. This is a nice calm ride, good for tired feet.

Honey I Shrunk the Audience-This is a 3D show your given glasses for this. Based on the movie honey i shrunk the kids but the shrink you instead. So so funny, Many surprises, we see this every time we visit.

Ice Station Cool - This is not a ride but a type of shop. Here you can sample sodas from around the world for free but be warned one is really horrible but which one :)

Mission: Space This ride is designed so you really do feel like your going into space. Each space craft holds 4 people. The whole family enjoyed this but its not for everyone, several other people came off feeling ill. Brought some space food from here for christmas, they didn't taste too nice.

Soarin' Better than i thought, we waited an hour to get on the ride and it was worth while. You feel like your flying over land and different scenes on a giant screen.

Innoventions East and West - This are two little buildings which both house new inventions which you can try out. We sent photo postcards home and a video message (Don't forget to take you family and friends e-mail addys). Very educational too. My children learnt home to escape and what to do incase of a fire, found this really interesting.

We did not eat much in this area so can't comment of the restaurants too much but the Hot dog cart went down well with my children as they were just huge.

This area is such a great experience, learn about all different cultures around the world. Each country surrounds a big lake which is called the world showcase lagoon. Boats travel across this, so why not take a trip or two. In each country you will find restaurants and shops all relating to the country your in. We only Ate in the American diner food was really nice here, really liked the steak burgers. We ate 3 times in the UK at a fish and chip shop, nice but not as good as ours.

These are the areas travelling from Left to right of the Lagoon:

The Area has a Pyramid shaped building and hosts a ride called El Rio del Tiempo and takes you through the Mexican life and history. Here you can experience Mexiacn life, see really colourful displays and shop in the Mexican market.

Here you will learn all about Norway, look for the big troll. Here you will find a ride called Maelstrom which is a boat trip all about Vikings.

Wonders of China The Temple of Heaven is the landmark here. You will find a circle vision 360 movie here, sorry i did not visit this. We saw some chinese acrobats performing here.

This area looks like a traditional village in germany which lots of german shops to visit, i brought lots of german chocolate here, my favourite. Don't forget to visit the German toy shop.

Adults come and taste the wine and maybe buy some too. Lots of Italian landscaped features here.

American Adventure
Here you will find the American adventure show which celebrates the american Spirit throughout history.

Japan -
The first thing you will see here is the Giant temple called Pagoda. Here we saw some Japanese Drummers performing, this was just excellent and worth watching. Japan also has a giant department store which sells everything Japanese. I spent alot here on hello kitty items and Japanese sweets.

Morocco -
Many Moroccan shops here, if you visit the restaurant here you will be entertained by a belly dancer.

Impressions de France A small version of the Eiffel Tower is here with plenty of french shops. You can see a movie here called Impressions de France. Beware the perfume shop is very expensive.

United Kingdom
HOME, lol. This area is set out with traditional english features like the red telephone box's and a typical english pub. Lots of shops to buy from, if you like tea shop here.

Canada / O Canada!
Here you will see rocky mountains, and a Totem Pole. There is a movie here called O Canada, you stand in this movie which the children did not like and on a hot day its very uncomfortable.

These are harder to find in EPCOT unless you know where to Look, here were we find them.

Winnie pooh and Tigger - In the Uk in the english toy shop at the far back

Beauty and the beast - France round the back of the perfume shop.

Princess Auora - As above

Morocco- Aladdin and the cast in a little shop here, ask someone its abit hard to find.

Space Goofy and Space Mickey - Hiding in a little area to the left of Mission Space

Nemo- Riding around near the living seas

You will also see characters on a bus which travels about and stops at certain areas but this always gets very crowded.

Also a building in the centre of Future world has a selection of different characters these are different each time. When we went it was Mickey Mouse, Minnie and Pluto.
Try going at Christmas time each land in world showcase has its own traditional Santa for you to visit, Why was the UK Santa wearing Green?

Kidcot Fun stops - In each country you will find one of these, you can do crafts and alsorts and collects bits from each country to add to your stick. If you collect them all you get a poster. My children loved doing this and collected them all. Your best off starting in Mexico and finishing in Canada. Beware this takes alot of time and can take up a good percentage of your time.

Passports- You can buy passports from the shops which you can get stamped at each kidcot stop.

You will need 2 or more days to do the whole of this Park.

Illuminations Reflections of Earth firework show this is done at night and is an amazing fireworks show which is on the world showcase lagoon. You can get a good view from most place around the lagoon. If you want a seat get one early.

You will find more performers in the world showcase and they come out a few times aday, some of these you will just come by chance.

Carparks cost $9.00 per car.

Your bags are searched on the way into the park for sercurity reasons, make sure you have your bag ready for them. They was also cheack video camera bags as well.

I have to agree that this is a fantastic place to visit! My partner absolutely loved it, especially the bit where they were growing plants in mid air. Really good review!
