This motherboard has been my choice in my personal machine and I have used the epox 8KHAL and 8KHAL+ in customers machines past all have served there role's flawlessly, epox seem to make fine boards.
From start to finish epox have made this motherboard very attractive with a neat little draw & string packageing.
Since I got it last year, it has never ever failed me and I have really came to appreciate using a stable computer as a result.
Summary of Features: Cpu up to XP2400+ 3x DDR DIMM, Memory Capacity 1.5 GB 1x AGP (4x) 6x PCI 2x Integrated Usb 1.1 4x Optional Onboard Usb 2x ATA100/66/33 IDE Controllers VIA VT8233 full-duplex integrated sound with midi/game port. P80P Diagnostic LCD
Included in the packageing is the board, driver disc, 1x FDD Cable, 2x ATA100 Cables, and the manual, screws, fixings and every thing you expect to find in your run of the mill motherboard retail package.
If your in the computer trade the mainboard can supply some helpful trouble shooting facilities with the P80P which ill talk about more later.
Performance wise this computers exceeded my expectations repeatedly, which I attribute directly to the motherboard.
If your in the market for a DDR266 Solution with out the need for future performance gains this motherboard should be considered if stability, performance and PCI expansion are factors. Another good reason is the P80P this will really appeal to technical guys like my self but could also be useful to a end user/first time builder.
It can detect the following useful things: 1 Bios chip reversed. 2 Incorrectly flashed bios 3 Mainboard problem 4 AGP/PCI incorrectly inserted. 5 CPU Problem 6 Memory inserted incorrectly 7 Memory compatability problem 8 Memory bad 9 Incorrect memory timings/speed configuration 10 Errors in video Bios 11 Overclocking failures
These will be represented by a hex code on a small 2 character LCD display on the motherboard would make a very handy testbed system, decant diagnostic tools are quite expensive.
You can look up the exact error codes on epox's website.
The Bios.. Award Phoenix, clean and easy to use as ever, and crammed with a large vocabulary of technical settings which should please even the most enthusiastic users. Includes "Pc health monitor" which reports various voltage's, motherboard and cpu temperature, and all three fan rpm signals are also recorded here, again this should apeal to system builders and techys either just trying to eliminate heating issues or seeing the thermal effect of overclocking.
But theres not much to write about in the year 2002 when DDR333/400 are becoming mainline and its falls short of nearly standard interfaces such as Firewire/USB2/ATA133, and will require bios updates to run new model Athlon Cpus, that siad all thoses interfaces can be added via PCI (Perpherial Component Interconect), and the bios can be updated fairly painlessly for some one who knows what there doing.
Saw this motherboard for sale at just £45!!! today.
