Advantages Advantages Discreet, easy to remember, effective

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for everyone.

I have been on these patches for well over a year now so I think that I am pretty qualified to review them. I am going to tell you my story of pregnancy and contraception from the beginning. ♥ MY STORY♥ When I was 11 I had an operation to remove a Cyst from my ovaries. When they did this they had to remove my ovary as well as the cyst. The doctors told me that I probably would never be able to conceive naturally, but at 11 you don't really think that these things would be a problem. As I grew up I met my to be husband, I was 15 when I met him and at the age of 17 I fell pregnant ... more

EVRA CONTRACEPTIVE PATCH I have tried two other forms of contraception previously before finally sticking with the patch. My first contraception choice was the pill which I was on through my teenage years and for a short time after having my daughter. If like me you found the pill to be a real pain to have to remember to take it every day then the patch may be good for you too. My second form was the implant or ‘Implanon’ which is a small rod that gets inserted in your arm. This is good as you do not have to do anything for a year, but this has a very common side affect … bleeding and bleed I ... more

Advantages Advantages Stops babies, easy to remember to change patch, non invasive for of birth control.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Made my acne worse, turned my moods to crazy mode, gained weight even though diet stayed the same.

First of all, Ortho Evra, the contraceptive patch is basically the patch form of the pill. I don't know about many others, but I had no idea this even existed, if it had not been for my medical condition, which I will go into later. The patch works by releasing hormones constantly (a higher dose than the pilll) into the body through the skin. You change your patch at the same time weekly, and wear 3 patches a month with a week off. Simple enough! Onto my personal experience. I have a dairy allergy. You may think, yeah, rather you than me I love my cakes and chocolate, but it goes so much ... more

I am hopeless with contraception, I have four unintentional (but much wanted) children. After the fourth, I was desperate. I had tried everything going and wanted and easier method. I always ended up playing russian roulette with the pill, the Depo injection reacted badly with me (I lost 3 stone in six weeks-sounds good-wasn't really) and was thus advised not to try the implant as it contains the same hormone as the Depo injection. Coil, kept disappearing and had to have scans to find it, cap (lets not go there-ugh) and so it goes on. In desperation my GP prescribed me the Evra patch. It is ... more

I have been using these patches since the birth of my third son in September 2004. They were quite new then and still think they aren't used wide enough today. Basically you get a pack of 3 months worth in the box. In each months packet you get three patches, one for each week and some little stickers which help to remind you which week you are on. Inside you get a 5cmx5cm patch attached to a clear backing paper. You peel it off and stick the patch to either your arm shoulder, back or top of your thigh. I used to always put mine on my arms but i found that the patch leaves a glue mark in the ... more
