Ikea - the catalyst for relationship problems.
Review of Mr. Commitment - Mike Gayle by miche_mc

Advantages: Laugh out loud funny
Disadvantages: Some of the characterisation feels a little contrived.

...If you've ever paused to take a good look around in Ikea, you can see it. Couples looking tense and irritable, gesticulating towards whichever bit of furniture has come to symbolise whatever problem their relationship might face. I've been there too, and while for Duffy and Mel it's a wardrobe the fulfills this role, I can remember getting equally et up about a small desk. So, Duffy and Mel realise that they have commitment problems, or at least Dufffy does. Mel is all ready to make the leap, but Duffy, still temping and waiting for his big break into the world of comedy, is still happier at home with flatmate Dan, and obsessing about toast. This leads to a classic will they - won't they situation, with a fair few surprises along the way. This is a funny book, and captures well the ups and downs of that point in a relationship... Real life look at men and commitment issues
Review of Mr. Commitment - Mike Gayle by jakes-mum

Advantages: A brilliant book, with a lovable min character
Disadvantages: None

...Mr Commitment, when I first started reading this, it reminded me alot of my partner, its been 8 yrs and he is still on the road to non commitment too . . . I think that is probably what got me hooked in the first place, the similarities to my own relationship problems and the fact that Ben Duffy (the main character of the book) was so "real" I could believe he was an actual person. Right storyline, we start off with Ben Duffy (known to all as Duffy) a 28 yr old man, who works in a temping job whilst he tries to break into the world of comedy. He lives in a flat with his mate Dan, while his long suffering girlfriend Mel waits for him to finally get around to proposing. Finally Mel takes matters into her own hands and preposes to Duffy, who reacts in a typical bloke affraid of commitment way and tries to find any alternative to "Death... Read review

Committed to this book
Review of Mr. Commitment - Mike Gayle by onthebeach8

Advantages: Great storyline, good author, brill characters
Disadvantages: None , book doesn't last long enough

...Mr Commitment , published by Hodder and Stoughton is about a 28 year old man called Ben Duffy , but people just call him Duffy. He is Mr Commitment , or at the moment , Mr Irresponsible . He is our main character and one which you grow to adore. His girlfriend Mel is wanting commitment after four years of "dating" , she wants them to move in together and get engaged. He is low paid in his temping job while he is waiting for his big break on the comedy circuit. Duffy knows he loves Mel, but doesn't want the big commitment , after a trip to IKEA , where all trouble must begin !! They break up. Mel thinks he doesn't want to marry her , he is just plodding along , but she know deep inside he doesn't want to do it. Whereas she has been waiting for this all her life . It's not until Duffy sees Mel with ROB1 ( it's not a typo, read it and you... Read review
