Early Learning Centre Egg & Spoon Race

When I was working in a nursery one of my responsibilities was to work with the other nursery staff to plan a sports day for the children and one of the items which we went and purchased to use on the day were the early learning centres egg and spoon race kit.

The egg and spoon race kit contains four different coloured plastic spoons, as well as four plastic eggs which split in to two if dropped and open up to reveal a small bean bag which looks a bit like a fried egg! The set costs just six pounds for all of the items which I do feel is very good value really as it is not too pricy to purchase for use at home as well should you feel the need.

The spoons are made from a lightweight plastic with a big end part for carrying the egg on. The plastic eggs coordinate with the spoons so that whilst having an egg and spoon race each player is aware of which egg part is theirs should there be lots on the floor all at once! The eggs fit well on to the end of the spoons and it is literally just a case of how careful a little one can be whilst racing with the egg on there. The bean bags inside the eggs are very sweet looking too!

The children at the nursery absolutely loved these egg and spoons and during the sports day they were able to have a good go at racing with them. As they were only little of course some got dropped along the way but they were able to pick up their bean bags and put it back in the egg easily as the egg just joins back together very quickly and simply. The set looked in perfect condition even after plenty of use and many “drops” along the way and I would say they only slight issue was that the bean bags became a little dirty but this wasn’t really a major issue which detracted from the fun of the toy.

My friend recently had a sports day themed party for her 30th birthday and these were one of the items which were used on the day and I have to say the adults had just as much fun playing with these as the children did so I would say they are also suitable for parties such as this.

As the set is predominantly made from plastic it kept really well and we were able to use it each year whilst we had the sports day as well as using it inside as well as we had a big hall available to us for physical play for the children. The set is quite small and so we just kept them in a box along side all our other sports day equipment because they came packaged in plastic rather than in a box.

I have to say that I think this is a great little toy to have particularly if you have more than one child as they will be able to have races against each other and will no doubt have lots of fun in the process.
