Advantages Advantages Nice taste, doesn't take long to cook

Disadvantages Disadvantages I haven't seen it in many shops

Ebly is "durum wheat that has been delicately pre-cooked to produce a tender wheat for everyone to enjoy", well that's what is says on the box! And it's true I definitely enjoyed my meal. But first thing first..... ++++ The packaging: It comes in a bright yellow box (500g). It has an easy opening on top so I didn't end up with wheat everywhere in my kitchen and just as well because it's small (a little bit bigger than a grain of rice) and it would have made quite a mess. ++++ Cooking: Ebly is REALLY easy to cook, put it in boiling water for 10mn (I like pre-cooked food) and drain. Add salt and ... more

Advantages Advantages versatile nutritious grain which offered a unique alternative to rice and pasta

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive compared to alternatives

OCTOBER 2008 UPDATE Ebly wheat is BACK on the shelves - well it is in Waitrose at least! It is still produced by Masterfoods and comes in the similar cardboard packaging as before. Look out for the yellow and skyblue box with Ebly in big white friendly letters on a green leaf. It is a wee bit costly at £2.09 for 500g but, having missed it for so long, I bought a pack so I could redo some of my old recipes where only the texture of Ebly would do. Hopefully it will be available in other supermarkets at a more competitive price, so keep your eyes open ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to cook, tastes wonderful and costs little!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Supermarkets seem to be taking it off shelves/hard too find!

I discovered Ebly a few years ago and have been addicted to it ever since. I usually buy it from Morrisons but just recently Ebly seems to have vanished from the shelves much to my annoyance! Last time I bought Ebly ( a fortnight ago!) it cost about £1.79. Its difficult to describe what it tastes like exactly but its quite similar to white rice only its fluffier, lighter in texture. The only way to really tell how it tastes is to try it! I use it like I would rice as part of a meal. Ebly is made in France and is available in the UK, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria. There is a quite ... more
