It`s strange that quality and quantity appear to be the inverse of one another when it comes to shoe shops. Walk into the average high street shoe-store and shoes are everywhere, tumbling off racks at the merest touch, stacked up in boxes in corners, amassed on shelves or piled high in a seemingly perpetual sale!
Walk into any Ecco shoe shop though and what you should immediately notice is space! In fact, compare the range on offer to other shops and it will probably strike you as sparse. But what a range is presented for you! And what prices!
The shops are very much up-market and the prices reflect this. Happily, the quality of the shoes on sale is top-class so the investment of lots of your money in just something to put on your feet is to be recommended. At least that`s what I think.
They have a range of mens shoes, from smart casual to dress shoes, ergonomically designed trainers and medium to high outdoor walking boots and shoes. They are available in a variety of colours and finishes depending upon what style you want. The mens colours are more subdued than those for the women, black, coffee, rust, tan, bordeaux and stone are all used. The finishes are the same in both cases, smooth leather, nubuck and a combination of oiled nubuck , leather and/or Gore-Tex.
The womens shoes come in the same finishes but the colours available are supplemented by, amongst others, ruby, bosco(?), sand, white, brick, petrol, plum, navy, olive, henna and desert. The ladies styles are just as smart as for the men, having a varied and attractive selection of low to high fashion shoes and boots, most of them having distinct heels as opposed to flat soles. There are also outdoor walking shoes and boots for females, similar to the mens.
Whatever you buy from them, you can be assured that it`s going to be top quality and designed for the job of walking. They say that they are made for active people and believe me when I say that the two pairs of Ecco boots that I have have been a pleasure to wear. I am on my feet for a large proportion of the day and my pairs have been very comfortable from day one! They needed virtually no " breaking in" and seem to get more comfortable as the day goes on.
My favourite pair is called "Cheviot" and are ankle high outdoor boots that I wear everywhere! They are extremely rugged, yet very attractively designed and made in full grain leather and gore-tex. This gore-tex membrane, together with a fully sealed lip ensure that no water will get in but allows the natural moisture out, keeping the foot comfortable and dry. An insole of leather and foam moulds to the contour of your sole whilst an anatomically shaped shank and outer ensure very good shock absorption and flexible, snug feel.
And what will you pay for these marvels of human ingenuity? Are you sat down? Good.
In the UK, mens prices are from £54.99 to £130! Ladies from £49.99 to £110 !
You can get them cheaper in their rare sales eg. £130 down to £110 for the Cheviot boots that I have, but if you blanch at these prices then combine a holiday with buying them! Jet off to sunny Cyprus! Absolutely genuine Ecco shoes, sold in Ecco shops there retail at a fraction of the price that they are in UK and the rest of Europe. I don`t know how they do it but my boots cost me £75 (CY£68), not the £130 that they are in my local Ecco shop! My wife bought several pairs, all averaging about 60% of the UK cost.
Ask them at your local store why they are so expensive here and the reply that is usually given is that they are even more expensive in Denmark! So what? I`m not particularly bothered about the Danes problems! Why Denmark? That`s where the company originates from and where a lot of the shoes are still made but following massive expansion they also have factories in Portugal and Indonesia now.
Wherever you buy them from, they represent superb footwear and worth the money in the long run. I am not disappointed by them at all, just at the price that I will pay for my next pair as they will have to be bought here as no plans to holiday in Cyprus in the near future.
Ecco shops are located in London, Manchester, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Guildford, Oxford, Kingston and Leeds whilst stockists are more widely distributed across the country. New shops and stockists are springing up even as you read this opinion!
Very little needs to be added to the original review except a progress report of the Cheviot boots that I bought way back, over two years ago.
I am in my 50`s and obviously have been through quite a few pairs of shoes in my time. I can safely say that these Ecco`s have been the best by far in all that time!
I wear them virtually every day and they are now so comfortable, soft, flexible, cushioning and hard-wearing. I`ve just examined them for wear and apart from the obvious creasing of the leather, all the stitching is intact and no joints or seals are showing signs of separating. For 2 1/2 year old shoes the soles have worn down very little. The waterproofing claim is proved. I have tramped though mud and puddles and all the time, my feet have remained dry. Sweat, also is allowed to escape through the material, keeping the feet from overheating. They polish up almost like new!
My wife also wears some of her Ecco`s regularly. She is also very pleased and satisfied with the quality and durability of them. If she has any great distance or time to walk for, the Ecco`s are her first choice.
Some Ecco styles are fairly standard over the years whilst other seem to come and go but generally, twice a year a new range is on offer with sales to offer discounted models.
I have bought another pair since then and would recommend Ecco to anyone.

...my three pairs of sensible ECCO shoes I want to tell you about today.
I've had ECCO shoes for ten years, I know that because I remember the place and the time when I was introduced to them. I was on an excursion with our local art club and when we were trotting from one museum to the next a woman looked at my shoes and asked me if they were comfy. I found that odd because they were, either she'd deducted that they were hurting me from my strange ... ...so in love with her ECCO shoes and praised them so highly that she could have worked for the firm's ad department, she told me that she had got several pairs in different colours matching her different outfits.
I became curious and back home looked for ECCO shoes in the shoe shop where I usually buy my shoes. There weren't many, just some pairs on the shelves among other brands, but enough for me, when I had tried them on, I knew that I wanted to ...

Advantages: Boots and shoes are VERY comfortable, wear extremely well and fit. Disadvantages: Minor leather cracking on the boots at flex point
I discovered Ecco shoes just over 3 years ago. Ecco are a Danish company and their shop here in Perth is in South Street ‘Ecco let’. Someone is going to ask, “What’s the ‘let’ part about?” Well, frankly, I don’t know! It may be something to do with “ Co.” or “shop”. If I were a bit less ignorant of my Danish I could probably say. At that time I needed a good-quality pair of hill-walking ... ...rigid. Then the Ecco Trail boots caught my eye as I walked past the shop. They looked good and were worth more investigation. For example did they have my size (EU 48)? This is never easy off-the-shelf. As it happened they did – amazed.
Uppers are Leather – the softer lighter variety compared to the sometimes very rigid boot leather. At strategic points. the leather has been made specially soft and flexible to bend with the foot – ...

Quick review of Ecco Shoes (Shop)
Ecco shoes are superb. I also buy my golf shoes from them. They're comfortable (and I sometimes have a problem with walking shoes) and thought they're not the cheapest in the world, you get what you pay for. I bought mine from here (http://www.ecconet.co.uk) but there's stores in London, if you're in the big smoke. ...
