It's easy to be sceptical when someone tells you that with a few reusable balls you can cut down on the cost of washing clothes and help the environment all whilst still keeping your clothes at a good level of cleanliness. I had thought about using ecoballs for a long time, but worried that the product might not work. I finally decided that I had nothing to loose in trying and I brought some ecoballs from amazon.
I have not found ecoballs for sale in any shops, but they are easily available in many different places. They can be brought in many different packs, some with just the balls, some with other eco friendly products. Prices for a pack of ecoballs which can last for up to 1000 washes range from £20 to £35.
So, what do they do then? Well, the idea is that instead of using your usual washing powder or liquid and fabric softener, you use just the balls. They are designed to be used at low temperatures on short wash cycles. They are kind to your skin as they do not contain any perfumes, kind to your clothes as they don't contain chemicals which wear your clothes down after a while as powders do and they are kind to the environment as they cut down on wash time, packaging and do not use toxic chemicals. They are also kind on your purse as they can be re used so many times.
By now, your probably wondering if they actually work. I have been using ecoballs for almost two months now and I am happy with my purchase. I wash my clothes on a 30 degree cycle for half an hour and I get good results. On two occasions I have had items of clothing that came out of the washing machine with marks still on them, on these occasions I used the stain remover which was provided in the pack and it worked wonderfully. I have a seven year old daughter and I work with small children, so my washing can have all kinds of sticky stains on it by the time it gets to the wash, meaning that you can be assured my ecoballs have really had to prove themselves! I have found that some items come out of the wash feeling a little rougher than they used to, but I did previously use huge amounts of fabric conditioner and so I anticipated that this would happen.
Overall I think this is a wonderful product and would recommend it to anyone. I'm now spending less money, getting my washing done on shorter cycles and being more environmentally friendly than before, I can't see any reason for me to ever go back!
