The Eco Kettle is designed for you to be able to more accurately put in just the right amount of water that you want boiled - therefore saving energy for the planet and saving you money in electricity costs.

How does it work: the kettle has 2 chambers; one acts as a reservoir (this is the one you fill) and then by pushing and holding down a button on the lid of the kettle you transfer the required amount of water to the boiling chamber. Both chambers have 'windows' marked with cup levels, so you can see the volume in each. OK, so that sounds a bit faffy but seriously ITS EASY its just hard to explain! If you buy one then definitely read the instruction booklet and all will be come clear. And practice makes perfect - I found it did take a few goes to perfect the technique.

What's Great: I love that I'm being eco and env friendly, saving the world and saving pennies; I love that as a big coffee drinker I' m spending less time at the sink as I only fill the kettle (ie reservoir part) a couple of times a day; I love that its cordless and still looks like an ordinary kettle.

What's not so great: As other reviewers have said, it isn't perfect. I think its great and wouldn't be without it, however, you need to know the downside:

If the kettle lid is closed without a good seal, cold water can come out into the cup along with the boiling water to give you a luke warm cuppa slightly defeating the object! In about 4 months of use this has happened to me maybe 3 times and I would suggest it was my fault for not closing the lid properly!

A couple of times I have found that after pouring, on tipping the kettle back to an upright position some squirts of hot water can spit out - I don't know why it happens: is it a design flaw or is it me being overzealous with the plunger and introducing air?? The 1st time it happened it was a bit of a shock but now I'm aware it can sometimes do it, I really don't find it a problem - possibly different if you have children around.

If you're working on auto-pilot then yeah you can put the kettle on when the boiling chamber is empty - well you can do that with an ordinary kettle too and this one does have a cut-off for just such events.

My Final Say: I wouldn't swap my eco-kettle for any other kettle. The reason I bought it was specifically for the eco bit and I think it does that very well. Maybe there will be even better models in the future but for now this is good enough for me.

I bought mine from Ethical Superstore for just under £30 and found the ordering process straightforward and was very satisfied with delivery.

Great review, I have one of these, and yes it sprays hot water if you pur straight after the boil, I've found if you leave it for 20 odd seconds after boiling, you don't get the spray! Larry

Nice review. What I do'nt understand (and this is not a reflection on your review but of the kettle) is why it needs to hold the cold water? Why can't you just go back to the tap and put a mugs worth of water back in (unless you are in an office or somewhere, miles from the tap). Anything eco is ok, though. Gwen x
