Advantages: Very motivating
Disadvantages: All theoretical, but needs to be proven

...the two perspective of a Rich Dad, and Poor Dad. The Poor Dad who is his own biological father and the Rich Dad, who was his friends father. Both dads were good dads, but both dads have different perspective on how to become rich. Poor dad worked as a school teacher with the highest degree, while rich dad worked and build businesses. ...to be conscious on working smart rather than working hard. Robert Kiyosaki stresses that everyone should not work hard for money but to let their money work hard for them . This is made possible through a firm financial literacy and to know how to identify yourself in what quadrant you are in the cash flow quadrant. Mr. Kiyosaki indicated one investment instrument that is very risk friendly which is through real estate. But first of all one should ... Read review

Freakonomics
Review of Freakonomics - Stephen Dubner, Steven Levitt by sjwright

Advantages: Amusing, interesting, good value for money, readable by anyone
Disadvantages: Lots of figures

When i tell people to read this book usually the first response is along the lines of "economics? i would i waste my time reading a book about business? It has nothing to do with me". The fact is, as this book will show you, economics is not just about business, it is about the decisions we make in living our lives. Still not sounding appealing? Well Levitt and Dubner don't just use normal examples, they use amusing and thought provoking examples ...
...Ku Klux Klan have in common?" "Why do drug dealers live with their mothers?" "How can your name affect how well you do in life?" You don't need to know much about economics to enjoy this book although some knowledge allows you to understand some of the more complex points. There is also a lot of figures in some points which may put some readers off but are essential to back up the arguments they present in the book. Overall its well worth the ... Read review

And intorduction to the world of the wealthy
Review of Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Sharon L. Lechter, Robert Kiyosaki by nikolo21

Advantages: can be read in day, easily understood business principles
Disadvantages: at times it becomes repetitive

Rich Dad Poor Dad is an essential read to anyone who is ready to commit themselves to a collection of other books which if once read, are understood and their principles applied, can help anyone become financially independent. This may seem like a mouthful, but all it means is that there is no get rich quick scheme outlined in this book or in any of his other best-sellers. There is however a mind-set which Mr. Kiyosaki is attempting to install in ...

On the ball...
Review of The Economics of Sports (The Addison-Wesley Series in Economics) - Peter von Allmen, Michael A. Leeds by frkurt

Advantages: Interesting take on the topic of economics
Disadvantages: Could use a more global emphasis

...summer I am teaching for the first time an economics course at the local community college. The reputation of this course is such that many people dread it - some take it multiple times, and find it difficult to relate to the subject. Business A making X number of widgets has to respond to Community B exhibiting a demand curve that goes like this... There's not a lot for people to grab on to for interest in that, even if they are pursuing business ...
...topics class in economics at the graduate level. It presents much of the basic theory that one would cover in an economics course, but puts it all in the context of sports. This is sure to get the attention of many (albeit, alas, not all) of the students in the class much more so than widgets and `Business A'. This book has a decidedly North American slant to it - the primary examples come from Major League Baseball (MLB, and the attendant minor ... Read review
