I am attempting to make a very mundane product interesting. This op is about Ecover Washing-up liquid.
I do not have a dishwasher. This is not from choice but I do feel virtuous by not having one and having to do it myself. In my house we have a washing-up rota which most visitors think is rather funny. The washing up chore is the greatest cause of arguments in our home as no one wants to do it, so the only solution was for a rota to be drawn up. So far this has not meant that the washing up is done promptly, but atleast we know who to shout at when there are no teaspoons left for making a cuppa.
As two of us suffer with excema and my youngest one is only 13 it seems a shame to ruin our skin with harsh products. I use three different washing-up liquids and will probably do an op on all of them at some point.
This is my favourite and most virtuous though.
I am sure everyone has seen it in the supermarket over the past 15 years along with other Ecover products. I never know how to pronounce the name but choose Eec - over (with a little bit of a French accent to sound like Green - 'Vert'?!)
The bottle is recyclable or refillable and of a very basic, un-eyecatching design. There is a clear plastic label with an attractive design highlighting the fact that the ingredients are based on plant and minerals, harnessing the power of nature. So there.
The liquid contains Camomile and Marigold (I think this is a recent addition) which add a lovely fragrance. As yet my hands have been ok with it. Normally I use non-scented washing-up liquids as I get very itchy and scratchy if they have scents added.
I live in a hard water area and it takes quite a bit of detergent to create lather. I have noticed that I am not having to use a great deal to do my lot's washing up. It is cutting through the grease and grime well, and even my seventeen year old son is managing to clean the dishes ok - bonus!
Main ingredient: 5 - 15% plant based anionic and non-ionic tensio surfactants. I think this is important for all the extremely eco friendly shoppers among us.
Ecover Washing up liquid is also ok for using in Septic tanks. Nowadays with so many biological products and enzyme eaters this is an important fact.
The 1 litre bottle cost me £1.57 which isn't cheap, but then, it isn't designed for cheapness it is designed for ecological balance.
I have found that my hands are not at all dry, infact they feel fairly moisturised after use and smell very fragrant. Well worth a try if you haven't already.

Apparently it doesn't make many bubbles but works just as well :D I'm really going to have to try it when my bottle runs out :D

Good for the environment, and your hands! I can't say I noticed that it was good for my hands, but I'm all for helping the environment. Good op.

Not all ecover washing up liquids are vegan, I found out recently, and switched to a vegan one. But some ecover washing up liquids are. The ones that aren't contain milk protein or suchlike, so if you are hyperfussy you need to check contents very carefully.

Advantages: Environmentally friendly, genuinely kind to hands, excellent cleaning ability. Disadvantages: Not available everywhere, supermarkets don't allow you to refill.
