Two further seasons in the international category saw less reward with a 7th plkace in 1991 and an 8th in 1992. In 1993 he made a move to the Japanese F3000 series and was very sucessful, finishing second in 1993 and recieved a call up from Eddie Jordan to contest the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix for the Jordan-Hart team after his expirience at Japanese Circuits including Suzuka. He managed to score his first championship point and was drafted in full time for 1994. An early accident in the first round at the Brazillian GP in `94 saw Irvine pick up a 1 race ban by the FIA, but his attitude at the hearing saw this extended to 3 races, when he returned, he often outpaced young team-mate, Rubens Barrichello. 1996 saw him graduate to Ferrari to partner Michael Schumacher and had a few rough years before his form improved and he finished 2nd in the Championship in 1999 after an accident sidelined Schumacher for several races. He now races for Jaguar and we await what we think should be great things from the classic British marque.

Advantages: Long time in f1 Disadvantages: Not very good in qualifying
Eddie Irvine has been driving in formula 1 since 1993, he has been driving longer than almost any other driver currently in f1. At 36 years of age he is one of the oldest too. The highlight of his career was when he drove for Ferrari in 1998 and 1999 with Micheal Schumacher as his team mate. He has had 4 wins in his career, all in 1999.
These days his results are more mediocre. He hasn't managed to finish very many races this season. When he has ... ...I think that Eddie has past his best now. I don't think that he will retire just yet but he will probably not achieve what he did with Ferrari again. His achievments with Ferrari were impressive, but Micheal Schmacher has shown how much one of those Ferraris can do (and are still doing), and it is a lot more than Irvine did.
Nowadays he is more of a personality than a driver. His opinions get everywhere. There are regular interviews with him in ...

...not fit the standard mold. Eddie Irvine is more like an old fashioned driver, one who races for the enjoyment of the sport, rather than the money. He knows how to enjoy himself, but can still drive well. He has a big mouth and has made himself some enemies, but at least he says what he thinks, you can respect that in a driver. I don't think he will ever be world champion, but he should consistently make the middle of the field if he can get a good ...

Eddie Irvine is one of the good guys, one of the few Formula One drivers to have a genuine personality and an ability to drive to a very high standard. The man who was cruely looked down upon by Ferrari for commiting the sin of almost winning the Championship instead of golden boy Michael Schumacher, well if Schumacher was such an excellent driver he would never have had the crash that broke his leg would he ? Things have not been going well for Jaguar/Irvine ...
Advantages: His outspoken, live fast die young attitude Disadvantages: Playboy lifestyle leads to conflict with his team
Eddie has been a favourite of mine ever since I saw him cause a 3 car pile up not long into his formula one career. Unlike most of the corporate clowns in formula one Eddie Irvine is one of lifes true characters. Ok, so he might be a true international playboy who changes his supermodel girlfriends as often as his clothes but he never hides the fact. Eddie enjoys the trappings that his status brings and isn't afraid to enjoy them. Unfortunatley all ...
Advantages: Top bloke Disadvantages: Stuck with slow pants herbert.
Edd is my modern day hero. He is exactly what I was like about 5 years ago but without the arrogance!!! Woman here, Woman there!!! Woman Everywhere!!! We all like that. Get it while you can. He is a superb racing driver in a team that has a good driver to develop the car for him like Schumacher. Unfortunately he is lumbered partnering Johnny " slow pants" Herbert for this season and the Jaguar has been unreliable and off the pace. His usual brash ...

Advantages: Engineering excellence. Vast racing experience, Well funded Disadvantages: Reliability problems.
The Jaguar Cosworth team entered the world of Formula I admist very high expectations yet so far in the current season their results have been disappointing. This famous team which earlier won Le Mans and has always been widely regarded in Sports Car racing, started life as a Formula I team with two excellent and ,experienced drivers in Englishman Johnny Herbert and Ulsterman EddieIrvine. Perhaps too much was expected of them too early. The team certainly has faced problems related to the car's gearbox and so far reliability has not been their strong point. Coupled with that has been more than their share of bad luck exemplified by the Austrian grand prix where at the last moment EddieIrvine was taken ill with suspected appendicitis and had to be substituted by young Luciano Burti. Now Johnny Herbert has announced his retirement from ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: Lets the car do the work
Lets face it, my pet chimpanzee could have one the world title last year driving the MP14. The truth of the matter is Mika is only as good as the Car. The Car won the title for him last year and the year before and he was aboard for the ride, pointing it in the right direction. Its a shame that a mediocre driver like Hakinen can win the world drivers championship when he is defiinitely not the worlds best driver. EddieIrvine should have won it last year due to his total commitment to the team after the demise of Schumi!!! ...

Mika Salo was an able replacement for Michael Schumacher following the German?s horrific crash as Silverstone, as he picked up 10 points from six races to lend valuable support to EddieIrvine?s title charge.
Salo began the 1999 season as a test driver for BAR Supertec but drove in three races as cover injured Ricardo Zonta. His stand-in performances for Ferrari persuaded Peter Sauber to pursue his signature and take the seat of veteran Jean Alesi for his seventh year of Formula One. Salo is often outqualified by Diniz and needs to regain the form of previous seasons. ...
