Knowledge Is Power

Advantages: Educational
Disadvantages: Not on at weekends

...this will not have seen BBC Knowledge, which is a great shame. Out of the three BBC digital channels, this is the one that offers the most interactive output and has the potential to be a great asset to the UK as an information source. If you don’t know what it is your paying for, the format of BBC Knowledge is pretty simple. Five days a week it offers individual themed days of programming. Under five headings I’ll give you what you ...
...dabbler alike. It repeats BBC Two’s Money Programme as well as the documentary series Blood On The Carpet. Another excellent show on Tuesday’s is Work Predictions. This show tries to predict working conditions in the not so distant future. WEDNESDAY – Science Zone Another favourite day of the week on Knowledge is science day. Again it has the mix of repeats and original programming. Shows you might have seen before is my particular ...

The past redicovered

Advantages: good channel
Disadvantages: some programmes can be boring

...helpful during my 'a' level History which I took, especially for coursework. I am sure watching the History channel improved my History grade. I know it can seem boring but the documentary style programmes are very informative, you can pick up a lot of knowledge from watching the channel. I loved the biographies they did, I even went out and bought the books of the people they had done. Like J.F. Kennedy, Churchill Mussolini and many more. It’s ...
...is truth'. Funny, watching the History channel was often valuable revision time. I strongly recommend this channel to anyone taking History at degree, A level or GCSE To do well in History you need all round knowledge this channel is an excellent basis for supplying you with that. Its available free as part of the sky multi-pack, it is worth having just to help your kids grasp the dates and historical concepts. It helped me a lot. A excellent educational ...

Discover Discovery Civilisations

Advantages: Quality.
Disadvantages: Perhaps a little too much in the way of repeats.

...because (as it often does) Discovery Civilisations is showing a gem of a program. DC is not just a cut above your average spammy TV channel because of the type of programs is airs, DC is better than the others because of the quality of the programs it shows. I think DC reaps the rewards of having the might Discovery as a parent channel; there is the money to make really good programs. DC also has the solid reputation it has made for itself to defend ...
...DC range from information on Ancient Warriors (Celts, Romans, the Mongrel hoard and others) to information on civilisations past (The Egyptians, the ancient Greeks, the Mayans and others) and.? Well, I could go on and on and fill this review with examples but I probably shouldn?t. Does DC have any faults? Hmm, well, like most digital/cable channels it does run a heavy stock of repeats. It has a diet of programs that it airs over any given time. Some ...

Aeroplane MAD

Advantages: Good if you like planes
Disadvantages: Bad if you don't

...something’s gone wrong somewhere!!). Discovery Wings. The bane of my life. We have ONDigital, we should have got Sky but at the time the waiting list was 3 months. I'm impatient, and at the time I didn't have a clue how inferior ONDigital really were. My dad loves documentaries, but initially there was only UK Horizons to keep him happy. Then ONDigital got this channel. Bearing the semi-famous 'Discovery' name, this channel is dedicated to all ...
...have put on the real Discovery Channel I don't know, but my dad didn't care, this is his dream channel. And really, I mean, what could be more interesting than a night of hearing about aeroplanes. Two nights hearing about aeroplanes? It's the choice I face, either go and watch the other TV and have no Doooyoo, or sit in here and listen to another documentary on the B52's in Iraq. The odd time they spice it up by making it about helicopters, and ...

Learn about the past

Advantages: Interesting and informative
Disadvantages: Adverts

The History channel is a free television channel available to satellite, cable and digital subscribers. Documentaries are shown on a wide range of events from our history. I watched an interesting program about the significance and development of the sword around the world a few days ago. They even show great football matches from the past like the 1966 world cup final. They are of a very high quality and aren't patronising, like some documrntaries ...
