Oh, the endless Muff jokes
Review of Electro Harmonix Big Muff by godspeed

Advantages: Authentic fuzz
Disadvantages: not too sturdy

Everyone who's anyone has a Big Muff. I hung on till Electro-Harmonix reissued the 70s USA Muff. It's meant to sound better than the previous Sovtek version (I haven't had a chance to compare them yet), but its probably the coolest looking stompbox that will ever grace my pedalboard. As with all the Electro-Harmonix pedals, it comes in a quality wooden box (although it's a bit too big, and my Muff rattles around in it). Having paid £65 for it, I ...
...for a distortion when everybody has this effect on their amp). With the sustain (gain) control turned up all the way, I set the level so it matched my clean channel, and fiddled around with the tone control. Personally, I bought the Big Muff for its low, muddy, rumbly fuzz. And, oh my God, does it rumble! With virtually any guitar and amp you can sound like Billy Corgan (if you want to). The pedal can also produce some great lead sounds, with the ... Read review

Tiny copy
Review of Electro Harmonix Small Clone by godspeed

Advantages: Easy to get really good tone out of it
Disadvantages: Quite pricey, not very versatile

The currently available Small Clone is a reissue of the 70s Electro-Harmonix chorus pedal. The external casing is virtually identical to the original, except for one different logo, labelled as the EH 4600 Full-Chorus, rather than the Mini-Chorus. I don't know how much of the electronics have been kept, either. If you read my other opinions, you will probably see that I'm a fan of Kurt Cobain, and many of my guitar effects purchases have been based ...
...effects from the Nevermind era and particularly on In Utero, although he did get a Electro-Harmonix PolyChorus, but preffered the simpler stomp box. The Small Clone is SOOOoooo simple. You get one knob, for the rate of chorusing, and one little slider switch for depth. And of course a plain footswitch for on/off switching. When you play through one of these pedals, you'll fiddle around with the controls for about 5 seconds, then realise that it ... Read review

Whoosy Swooshy Woo Woo
Review of Electro Harmonix Small Stone by elbamfordo

Advantages: Shimmering analogue phase shifting, wonderful
Disadvantages: Possible bypass modification needed

This review is for the original EH4800 (Not sure exactly how old) as I have never tried the new ones. Without a doubt one of my favourite effects. I have also owned one of the older Russian manufactured reissues as I prefer not to use vintage pedals live where possible. Whilst it had similar characteristics I was left disappointed with the build quality as the plastic connectors do not last and I don't like feeling as though I need to modify manufacturers ...
...own the Russian version. The EH4800 has two preset depth settings controlled by the 'Color' switch and a nice big knob for modulation rate. I notice they seem to have started putting led indicators on the new ones which I am all for provided it is still true bypass. Unfortunately the old one i have had an SPDT footswitch when I acquired it which needed to be changed as the bypassed sound still had a swooshing background noise at high volume. If ... Read review

Wobbling in the vortex
Review of Electro Harmonix Delux Memory Man by elbamfordo

Advantages: Nice analogue sound very suited to any electric instrument.
Disadvantages: Big and possibly outdated as the new ones look AWESOME

Here we have the reissue Memory Man with the addition of modulation effects which are a bit like chorus or gentle flanging. This pedal is so much fun it should come with free earplugs and a health warning. If you are looking for a delay pedal this is probably not what you know as delay. Digital delay has a very precise clinical feel to it and delay times are often in excess of 2 seconds. This pedal probably has delay times of just under a second ...
...It uses the bucket brigade principle of passing signal through a series of chips which hold the signal as they charge before sending it to the output. This means more of an 'old skool' feel as the sound acquires a kind of warmth. A good simile would be the difference between CD and magnetic tape sound quality between the source sound and the delayed sound. The main use I have for this pedal is making crazy noises in a live situation or adding a ... Read review

Electro Harmonix Micro-synth (re-issue)
Review of Electro Harmonix Micro-Synth by Chris_taylor

Advantages: a very simple, but effective, introduction to synth sounds with no guitar-midi
Disadvantages: large footprint, may not find its place in every bands sound,no true bypass

I was looking for a product which I could create sounds which most would define as 'out-there', or at least 'classic synth' for use in a jazz fusion band. The mircro synth excels at the latter, with an ability to quickly dail (or maybe slide) in warm monophonic Moog style sounds. you cannot go any further than monophonic however, a restirction which although seems extreme is actually quite managable once accepted. The low-pass has a large sweep, ...
...which allows for down and up envelope sounds. Due to the resonance control and rate controls, sounds can range from subtle to seriously thick sounding classic mono synth leads, even purcussive or pad sounds can be coaxed out of the unit, and thats before you've even really dealt with the 'voice mix' section or attack slider. The four voices produced: sub octave, guitar (not dry output, just the octave of the signal), octave (up) and 'square wave' ... Read review
