I have had an account with egg for about 5 years now. I originally had the current savings account. My interest rate was about 4%. I used to get a statement in the post every 3 months. I never took any money out but used to pay by posting a cheque in a deposit envelope. It was all quite safe and I used to look forward to the quarterly statements to see how much I had!

Then I was surfing the net about a month ago when I realised that by switching to an egg internet account I get a higher interest rate! 4.6%. I have been with egg for about 4.5 years….and egg didn’t think of informing me of this?! I fixed it straightaway by ringing up customer services. Within an hour I had transferred all my money to an egg internet account.

For those of you with no Egg account, you can open an Egg internet account with as little as £1.00.

I had to wait a few days before I was able to log on. The website is pretty easy to use. Its easy to log on, you just add your name, date of birth, postcode, mothers maiden name and your password and you go directly to your accounts. Once there you can pay money into your account or take money out.

Within the past few months I have withdrawn money online (takes about 3 days – which is fine by me - to transfer money from egg to another account) and deposited (online- again….it takes about 3 days for money to go from your account to your egg interest account.) i have never had any problems with my account, before and after i changed it to an interent account. on the whole it is very easy to manitain.

The interest can be paid monthly or annually into your egg account or into any other account bank/building society account.

I don’t have it yet but egg has 0% credit card. To find out more you may go to www.egg.com

On the whole I would say Egg is very professional and efficient. I am not aware of any assistance from customer services via email but their telephone assistance is great. On the few occasions I have had to ring customer services over the past few years, they have been quick and efficient. The best bit has to be being able to log on to Egg and seeing your savings grow day by day!

I've been with egg 5 years or so, during which time they have steadily got less competitive. I have internet savings a/c (+ credit card & equity ISA) but don't save with them as you get a better return from a mini cash ISA.
