Advantages Makes keeping chickens a doddle; Makes you trendy
Disadvantages 'Seems' expensive; Chickens are evil

With the cost of living steadily climbing, and everyone blaming it on the credit crunch despite not knowing what on earth that is or its effects on the global economy, it has suddenly become the 'in' thing to grow your own and attempt at least some level of self-sufficiency where you can. Eglu chicken house - pricey but worth the extra 11/10/2009

Advantages Easy to clean, portable, fox proof run, good resale value, very durable
Disadvantages No side door to the run, quite expensive initial outlay

The Eglu range of chicken housing is in my opinion quite expensive for what it is, but has the great advantage that when you come to sell it you can recoup almost all of the cost! So many people wanting to keeping chickens and have heard about the Eglu that if you want to change to a bigger model the Eglu is so durable that unlike a wooden chicken house it can be cleaned up and sold on even after quite a few years' use. Eglu - looks cool, but we thought our chickens deserved more room 11/09/2010

Advantages Warm and snug for the chickens, not too hot in summer, and very easy to clean
Disadvantages Run too small, extensions made it unwieldly to move and very difficult to clean out

As complete beginners to chicken keeping, we bought a beautiful green eglu 'classic' about 3 years ago, and once it was in place, bought two chickens locally as we lived to far away to purchase the chickens offered by Omlet (the company that makes the eglu). The eglu looked fab in the garden, and even better when our two brown hens moved in. We very quickly discovered, from our point of view, that there were four main problems with the eglu given that the chickens were predominantly pets and we wanted them to be happy: 1. Lack of space. Eglu cube chicken house 15/07/2008

Advantages Easy to clean, fox proof, price comparable to purpose built wood models
Disadvantages Water drinker is very stiff to remove for cleaning, front entry gate small for cleaning

I have had this larger eglu model the cube for over a year and remain very pleased. Keeping chickens is really easy, producing a hobby for the children,a regular supply of more eggs than we can eat and much interest from friends and acquaintances. I had priced up this metal and plastic cage housing against purpose built wood and mesh affairs, and whilst this has a "suburban" look about it, financially it compared very well. The added advantage is that the plastic is quick and easy to keep clean so that there is less likelihood of red mite infestation or similar that an amateur chicken keeper ... more

Having bought the product, i was really amazed at how cool and stunning it looked. It is made from high quality material,and has secure wire around the coop. It also contains wheels under the coop for easy transport around your garden to give fresh pastures for your hens. i have 2 hens living in there and they seem to be enjoying it.They have plenty of room. Even though the price is a bit high,the durability is very long . It was easy to setup and easy to move around the garden.The coop contains a side door to collect the eggs and it is incorporated really well. It comes in many different ... more
