I am afraid I am not finding much time to be on Ciao these days but with a new puppy in the house I have some doggy related products to review from time to time.

Elastoplast Silver Healing plasters are a range of plasters with silver ions in the pad which it is claimed speed the healing process and help to prevent infection. This is a new product on the shelves of chemists and supermarkets but does it work?
Silver has been known to be a potent antimicrobial agent for quite a long time - the Romans used silver nitrate for healing purposes. Silver ion rapidly kills microbes and silver has been shown to be non-toxic to humans so the inclusion of silver into wound dressings would seem to be logical.
Recent developments have seen silver used in burn dressings to great effect so I found it interesting to see it available over the counter in a range of standard plasters for use around the home. Always interested in new products I bought a packet on a recent trip to the supermarket and put them in my medicine cabinet awaiting the opportunity to try them out.
I didn't have to wait too long - being an avid DIY enthusiast I was using my electric plane one day when I accidently caught the pad of my finger on the rotating blade. This quite effectively removed an area of skin and caused a small but very raw and painful injury. Time to try out my new plasters I thought and definitely worth using on a DIY type of injury due to the risk of infection in carrying what was basically a 'dirty' job.
I was very pleasantly suprised, the wound was small enough to be protected by a single plaster strip which staunched the bleeding. I needed to replace it later in the day as the original plaster had got quite dirty as I finished the job I was doing but the wound looked clean enough so I put on a new plaster and forgot about it. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with results - not only did the wound stay infection free but the speed of healing was amazing. I did the injury on a Friday and by the Monday it was almost completely healed whereas previously I would have expected that type of injury to take days and days to heal. It is recommended that you do not apply antiseptic creams before using these plasters as that would cover the wound and prevent the healing properties of the silver being in contact with the wound.
I have used them several times since on a range of different injuries and each time I find the wound heals quickly and I have had no infection problems at all. They are amazing, I know they are slightly more expensive than ordinary plasters but because they speed healing you should need to use less of them. They are well worth the difference in outlay and I can't see me going back to 'regular' plasters again.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
You've got the basis of a good review, but you need a bit more info for a VH. For example you mention the outlay but don't list the cost which would be quite an important factor when considering buying these. Let me know if you update your review and I'll rerate it :)
