As I get older, so I get less and less tolerant of the people who are there to "assist" me in places like Currys, Comet, PC World and so on. They rarely seem to care about my custom, and even less often can they offer informed help on what I'm hoping to buy.
That's what made first look online, and I think I was just lucky to find Electrical Discount UK. Their home page lists easy-to-use product categories, which let you quickly establish whther or not they've got what you're after. The product descriptions are adequate, although, in some cases, a bit more detail and higher fidelity pictures would help. Their prices are consistently £20 to £30 cheaper than the shops, and they seem to have few problems with items being out of stock.
I have bought several reasonably expensive items, ranging in size from a Freezer to a microscopic MP3 player. In each case, delivery has been free, prompt and reliable (i.e. they delivered soon after my order, and when they said they would).
I am about to use them again to buy a microwave oven, once again saving myself £30 over "High Street" prices, but more importantly, saving myself the hassle of explaining to the in-store "expert" what a microwave oven is !
Quick Update after most recent purchase:
Microwave ordered at 1843 on Saturday. Phone call from Electrical Discount UK at 0904 on Monday. Delivery agreed for 1700 on Tuesday. Microwave delivered at approx 1705 on Tuesday. GREAT service and an saving of £30 over Currys/Comet.
Oh, and in response to a couple of comments - they are a member of the Which? Web Trader Code of Practice and are EDUK and Thawte SSL certified (online security)

I think it is wrong of you to state shop assistants are clueless, all currys/comet (well not so much comet staff) sales assistants I have come in contact with have been very helpful and informative.

You're right, most sales assistants are so badly paid and badly treated that they really don't care!

Even less often will they offer to help you get the stuff to the car!
