Born Gassy
Advantages: fuel Disadvantages: many
...dated - 31-03-09 Utility - BRITISH GAS Titled: Born Gassy ---------------------------- In the news today British Gas has re-named their corporation 'Born Gassy'; it has been long awaited brands re-think, from it's gassy fat cats. The whole matter has brought a bad smell to the shareholders as they feel it would have terrible implications to the BG share-price. All this is of course a joke; however, according to Ombudsmen and Trading Standards, there ... ...a nasty toxic smell and it is getting worse by the minute. For all initial complaints regarding BG write to: British Gas PO Box 3054 Eastbourne BN219FD Thank you for your reading through Born Gassy, I hope it was of interest Copyright - 03 2009 - 1st2thebar ...

npower - Incompetent or cowboy?
Advantages: No that we can think of. Disadvantages: Very poor administration. Ignore requests that are made.
Same story as most of the others I'm afraid. We're pensioners and we were suddenly hit with a massive bill (even though previous statement showed us way in the black) It turned out that previous bills were based on estimates - even though our meter was regularly read. They ignored subsequent instructions about the amount we wanted to pay in future, so we paid up our bill and switched to EDS. Now N power have billed us for another month's payment ... ...We can't decide whether they are truly cowboys or just totally incompetent. The seem to be a mirror image of the, now defuct, company Setanta (different type of business, same type of experience - we got out of there in a hurry as well)
The web shows that there are so many complaints about Npower. It looks to be one of the worst utility companies and the postings on Ciao reflect this. ...

Scottish Power: threats and an inability to listen
Advantages: Might be cheaper, but its not worth the stress Disadvantages: Threatening correspondence, uncaring attitude, tend to ignore explanatory letters and phonecalls
...I started receiving bills from Scottish Power, for the period of the tenancy. I had previously been with EDF (an excellent and very helpful and understanding company), and wasn't aware the tenant had switched. I called Scottish Power to explain that they should be charging my ex-tenant, not me. They said that when he had switched, they had taken no bank details and the name had been registered as Mr A Nother (incredible!!). I said I thought that ... ...readings etc (as requested by Scottish Power). They were ignored. That is until I phoned up and told them that the next contact from me would be via my solicitor. They sat up and listened and have closed the account.
An awful company. Completely cold and unfeeling: I had been the victim of a crime and they could not care less. Avoid like the plague. Is it really worth saving a couple of pounds if you might end up going through heartache when you ...

POWERGEN A.K.A. E.ON - SO USELESS!!
Advantages: None whatsoever except , maybe, that you do get Tesco points Disadvantages: EVERYTHING - THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL
The point of this review is to make others REALLY aware of how badly our Utility Companies are mis-managed. If there was provision for minus 10 stars that is what they would receive from me.
I really do wonder if I am another planet when I have to deal with some of them, in this case E.On!
Firstly they put our Direct Debit up from £48 to £92 when the energy prices rose - I pointed out to them that I had done a VERY THOROUGH calculation based on ... ...took no notice ( I did not bother to change to another company as I think they are all the same - out to make a fast buck out of us, the poor customer!)
Suffice it to say after some time and numerous emails and letters from me we had a surplus of £400 with them. This was beyond a joke, SO, I sent them an email with Court papers attached and told them that unless the £400 was in our account within 5 working days the Court papers would be actioned.

Southern Electric - very helpful customer service department
Advantages: Very helpful and efficient Disadvantages: None to date
I have been with Southern Electric now for 3 years since moving into a property that unfortunately, has storeage heaters. I decided to go to them because the people we bought the property off recommended them. I was very impressed at the time at how quickly I got through to the Customer Services and set up an account. I had never had storeage heaters before and wasn't sure of how they worked on the Economy 7 tariff. The customer services representative ... ...the advantages and disadvantages and also arranged for some literature to be sent out to me on storeage heaters. I received an information pack within 3 days and was very impressed at the time and effort that she had made on my behalf. Since then I have been very pleased with the service. On one occasion they sent me an extimated bill but after a quick phone call a revised bill was sent without any fuss or bother. I pay monthly by direct debit and ...
