...for a certain amount of clearance for ventilation – there should be at least 10 cm above the appliance and 1.5 cm underneath the appliance. A number of fridges these days still contain an ice compartment, which I always think is a waste of space. They can also become heavily clogged with ice, and greatly add to the burden of cleaning and maintenance. Let’s face it, if you want to freeze something, you will want a freezer anyway. The Electrolux model appealed to me because it was a good size, with relatively simple shelves and door compartments. I also hate fridges with doors that stick shut and are difficult to open. This one has a good sturdy handle, but doesn’t weld itself shut every time you close it, so you don’t need both hands to get it open. ...The smashing AEG double oven that was here when I bought the house had started to perform some weird and unasked for things. I don't mean it was nipping out at night and hitting the disco or ballet dancing round the kitchen - nothing as weird as that. However, sometimes when I asked it to cook a lasagne or some roast spuds it would switch itself off or start a cleaning cycle and the only way I could stop it was to turn it off from the main fuse box - an annoying thing yes, but more than that a wee bit scary when you're faced with a table full of kids banging their cutlery on the table and singing why are we waiting?
