The Company
Created in 1990, Elemis is a lifestyle brand of aromatherapy products that are designed to treat the individual holistically. This is achieved with the use of plant essential oils and marine extracts. The company are committed not only to offering natural products that appeal to the emotions, but also to providing an active therapeutic range that helps to treat the skin and is extremely pleasurable to use. Renowned herbalist and aromatherapist, Jan Kusmirek, has helped to create products that are inspirational and create a feeling of well being. In the last 15yrs, Elemis has grown to be a highly respected professional aromatherapy brand recommended by health and beauty editors throughout the UK and the rest of the world.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy simply means using concentrated plant oils (essential oils) either to massage into the skin and/or inhaling their vapours. Sounds simple, but this can have a profound effect on the blood, nervous system, and parts of the brain that control the release of hormones as well as those that control emotions. Aromatherapy has been shown to be particularly helpful with relieving stress and promoting relaxation and inner peace. It can also help with respiratory problems, women's health problems, allergies and digestive disorders. However, these oils can be extremely potent and should be avoided if you suffer from certain medical conditions (if in doubt, it is always best to check with your doctor). Many essential oils are not suitable for use during pregnancy.
The Product
The formula claims to 'capture the essence of Cleopatra's ancient bathing ritual'. That had me hooked! I'd always fancied bathing in milk (although, it always reminds me of a certain Benny Hill song…..Ernie, the fastest milkman in the west….forever etched on my brain ….damn him!!!). This lovely stuff has milk protein as its base and is 'rich in vitamins, amino acids and minerals, natural plant collagen from oat extract and Japanese camellia oil'. These ingredients completely nourish the skin and leave it feeling very soft and supple. This is especially good for very dry, irritated, or sensitive skin. If you have ever had....dare I say it....skin dandruff, this is the product for you! I expected this to have a very rich texture, but the consistency is actually quite runny. On opening the bottle, the aroma doesn't hit immediately. This has a very soft, sweet, milky scent. Quite subtle. For me it smells like little babies and all their little baby things. Strange description, I know, but I just love that 'baby' smell and that's what this reminds me of. Calming and comforting.
How to Use
This is a highly concentrated treatment and is completely different from your average, everyday bath or shower product. It is recommended that you follow a 12 day programme to combat severe dryness. Simply pour 5 capfuls into a hot running bath to make a lovely, fragrant, milky soak. On excessively dry skin, the product can be applied directly onto the skin, after bathing, in place of a body lotion. For economy sake, you may want to confine this to particularly dry patches. It is also recommended for use on a very dry scalp. My top tip is to apply like a body lotion and allow this to be absorbed into the skin for anything from 10 minutes to a few hours BEFORE bathing. This way you don't have to add the product to the bath at all, and the residue on your skin is more than enough for the purpose of cleansing. This is by far the most economical method. The need for such economy will become apparent when we discuss cost!!
General Info & Personal Opinion
This is a salon based brand that is not available in any high street stores. In essence, we're talking serious skincare here….and it's not cheap! This brand is a favourite in health spas, on cruise liners, in luxury salons etc. It is definitely a luxury. But if your wee bod is in need of some serious pampering, this is one to consider. This is not a product I use on a regular basis…..too expensive for that! But, I love to receive this as a special birthday or Christmas treat. After a course of treatment with this, my skin feels absolutely wonderful. And the benefits seem to be fairly long lasting so that I don't need to use it continuously. It's like a rescue remedy. This product is suitable for use during pregnancy.
I can't really comment on packaging as a single product as, the few times I have bought this, it was part of a set with other skincare items. It comes in a large 400ml size. If I remember correctly, I found this to be just slightly short of the amount required to follow the twelve day programme (I think the recommended 'dose' is 35mls). That, I would say, is a bit of a drawback. However, on subsequent purchases, I used the pre-bathing application method and found that the bottle lasted much longer and with results that were every bit as good.
Elemis products are not tested on animals and no wood from endangered forests is used to create their packaging or promotional literature. They source materials from companies that provide the pulp from tree farms that are grown specifically for the paper industry.
Availability and Price
QVC stock a range of Elemis products, this is where my previous purchases were made. They do not appear to have the milk bath in stock at the moment but, in the run up to Christmas, they usually increase the size of their range and offer special value gift sets (well worth taking advantage of).
The 400ml bottle is currently available at http://www.beautyandtheeast.com for £30.45 (£2 p&p)
Although I think this is a 5 star product, I am only awarding it 4 stars because of the price and the fact that the bottle is about 20mls short of the recommended amount for the twelve day programme.
Advantages: Dual purpose plus no need for body lotion Disadvantages: Didnt last long
This is part of the aroma-pure range from Elemis. Sitting in the bath, a nice cold glass of wine, and the skin nourishing milk bath.....sheer bliss! Lovely gentle fragrance and leaves your skin feeling sooooo soft afterwards, you can leave off the body lotion! This can also be used neat as an intense moisturiser, so if you have any dry patches of skin, rub a little of this in. My only complaint about this product, is that you have to put at least ... ...if it was a larger size, but mine was part of a gift set, and only 125ml, so I only had about 6 baths with it. Admittedly, I did use more than the recommended 5 capfuls, but to get a good result, I found you had to. It was good though, and a product I will buy again, that is, until you guys recommend something better! Now, there is a challenge!!! ...

Advantages: Smells divine and softens skin Disadvantages: avaliability
...If you have SENSETIVE SKIN elemis is a must! I am one of those people who has tried everything but my skin reacted to them all until elemis, I'm not sure if it is just because the best of things in their products or because they don't really use mineral oils and nasty harsh things like that but believe me when I say the whole range is brilliant!
So this product may be expensive but if I still think that it is good value for money in the end, what ...

Once you slide (you will not leap - it is not that kind of experience - you are now relaxed and smelling wonderful, with smooth, soft skin!), you can also use it as a body mouisturiser - but I think that would be overkill and the bath experience is much more pleasurable - just wrap up in a toweling robe - and don´t forget to blow out the candles!

Reviews which might be of interest for "Elemis Nourishing Milk Bath"
One of my pleasures in life is a long soak in my bath, with a glass of wine and a few candles-bliss! I also like to have something deliciously scented and luxurious to ad to the bath. I am lucky enough to have been given a range of Elemis aromatherapy products including the gorgeous skin nourishingmilkbath.
Elemi makes a whole range of skin care products all using natural ingredients using plant oils. I have a fairly dry and sensitive skin so I really liked the sound of the nourishingmilkbath that is made specifically with dry skin in mind. I have used several Elemis products now and have never had any problems with irritation.
