I apologise. About 12 months ago I received a survey about a new product concept that the Baileys bods had come up with, based on what the makers stated about Baileys Glide I clicked 'would definitely buy' and 'fits the Baileys range perfectly'. I was wrong.
What have Baileys done? While my favourite chocolate bar and perfume will change by the day, ask me any time what my favourite alcoholic beverage is and I'll say Baileys. Every time. But *this* isn't Baileys. Yes, it's made by Baileys but erm... no, it's not Baileys.
It markets itself as a blend of Baileys Irish Cream and vanilla 'for a longer, lighter experience'. I'll tell you now, it's longer because it's so awful it'll take you an hour to get through a small bottle. Advantages: A refreshing way to drink Baileys Disadvantages: If you like Baileys, why drink this anyway?
had no wish to be left behind, and wanted to create an alcopop style version of their own product. Which is fair enough, really!
I wasn?t expecting a great deal when I was offered a bottle of Glide to try. Not just because the majority of reviews I?ve read have said some very nasty things about it, but also because of the person who was offering. A friend of mine loves her cream liqueurs and will often be found finishing off an evening with a Baileys. But she?d got half way through one bottle of the stuff and, having bought a 4 pack was more willing to throw 3 ½ bottles of Glide away than try to choke them down. That was my first warning.
My second warning came with the words she uttered as she handed me a bottle. ?You won?t like it?, she said, ?It?s got vanilla in it?. I?m not a fan of even the smell of vanilla, much less ...
