I really enjoyed this book, but found the last few chapters a little unbelievable and didn't find them true to the rest of the book. It is hard to believe that the character we get to know so well acts how she does at the end, and the justification for her actions seems a little out of step with her upbringing.
This book intertwines with another Lesley Pearce book 'Camellia', and has some of the same characters at a younger age. Read 'Camellia' first otherwise you will be told all the secrets in Ellie and this will spoil Camilla for you.
Advantages: good storyline, strong characters Disadvantages: ending a bit disappointing

I seem to be ?the library? as I pass my books on after finishing with them but occasionally someone lends me a book. This LesleyPearse book wouldn?t be top of my own reading list but my good friend has most of Lesley?s books and really enjoys them. She persuaded me to try this one.
It starts off in 1990, and Daisy Buchan, who is 25, is at her mother?s death bed. Lorna Buchan has cancer. Daisy is adopted and has younger twin siblings, Tom and Lucy. Lucy and Daisy have never got on and this is exacerbated when Lorna dies, and only Daisy is present during her final moments. Lucy feels dreadful that she didn?t have the chance to say goodbye and takes it out on Daisy ...
Ellie is a sweet-natured brunette generous of heart with a sparkling smile and an accent which reveals her East End background. Bonny is beautiful and spoilt with cascades of blonde hair the brightest pair of blue eyes and a mouth like Cupid's bow. The two girls meet in London at the end of the war when seduced by two American airmen they pool their wits and resources and set off to make a living on the stage. Set against the hardship and austerity of post-war Britain and the glamour and ruthlessness of life in variety theatre their story is one of sacrifice and burning ambition. But most of all of a powerful friendship that lasts against all odds.
