Cat spewed in my video, toilet overflowed, washing machine flooded my utility room, children descended from great height onto leather chesterfield chair crashing it into bits then my larder fridge toppled over (onto me!) which could have been a total disaster for me cost-wise (as well the mental strain) but this contents policy really did prove to be worth its weight in gold and in my mind the best household contents cover I have ever taken out (and I admit to buying some less than good ones) -mainly in terms of the actual cover that it provides and the speed in which claims are dealt with and settled** especially because there is accidental cover included - many household policies are able to come back with the usual retort 'sorry you are not covered - it was accidental damage' 'goodbye'!!
At the end of the day with household insurance the main considerations for the cover are:
** What is being covered? ** How much will it cost?? ** Is the cover adequate?? (if there is no accidental damage clause then be careful - much 'damage/loss' is accidental in nature! (especially with children and pets in tow)
I live in the south east and my premium is £11.00 per month this covers:
1. £18,000. of house contents. Importantly this covers them from the usual elements: Fire, smoke, storm, flood, riot, malicious persons, subsidence, escape of water, theft, impacts from vehicles or falling trees (both inside the home and within the garden or outbuildings) ** Unlike most other policies this policy also covers every item for ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE - which does cover a mulitude of possible accidents to your belongings everyday.
In addition to the contents themselves legal expenses are also covered to a ceiling of £25,000.
The claim procedure is a straightforward and simple exersize which I have found particularly expedient, handled by helpful, polite and considerate personnel:
1.Initial contact is made by telephone to the claims department directly to advise of the loss/damage, a claims form is then posted out, I have usually received mine the next morning.
2.The form itself is easy to complete with the actual details of how the item(s) were damaged etc what the original cost was and the replacement value.
3. With damaged items an engineer is normally appointed by the insurers to inspect the item(s)and report back, if the item(s)is irrepairable a replacement is ordered and delivered directly - this happended with both my video and larder-fridge, replacement was quick.
4. A £50 excess exists on my policy which means the first £50 is paid by you, but this from my experience is standard in contents insurance policies.
** IF PROBLEMS IN CLAIM OCCUR: During one of the claims an elderly shopkeeper in a state of muddle became confused as to whom would be paying for the dishwasher they hasd supplied to me (on the authroity of endsleigh) because she had forgotten to fax details of delivery over to them they had not released payment - and sent me a solicitors letter! I contacted endsleigh at 11am and within 1 hour they had contacted the solicitors directly and mailed the payment to the lady in question. I was particularly happy with expedient way they dealt with this. OK there are a lot of insurance companies out there but may from my personal experience do not function that well in this type of situation.
No-one wants inadequate insurance cover particularly when an item of value has been lost, stolen or broken, but this cover is from my experience good cover that gives peace of mind - particularly when you happen to be someone as accident prone as 'yours truly'!!!
Advantages: I got my payout in the end. Disadvantages: It took a long, long time
...been fighting a battle with Endsleigh that has only just come to an end. If all you care about is saving money then this op will not be all that informative – you need to get online and crawl around for quotes to meet your needs, comparing the best different companies can offer you. But, if you are the sort of person who likes to know that, should the need arise, claiming on your insurance will be a relatively efficient and pain free process, then ... ...to scrap Endsleigh from your list of possible insurers.
In September this year I received the insurance policy for my final year’s accommodation at university. Reading the cover out loud for fun (£1000 for my laptop, but only £400 if I lose an eye!) until I happened across the fact that it includes cover for accidental death of a parent. Now I have a parent whose death certificate lists that as the cause, and was covered by a similar policy the ...

Advantages: Cheaper then most insurers! Disadvantages: High excess
...The Excess charge with Endsleigh is quite high compared to others, about £50-£100 more. The reason is that because your premium is low your excess is high. This excess you pay even if the accident is not your fault.
You never really think you are going to have a accident, so I decided to take it.
Oh Shit----My accident
I had a car accident a couple of months ago, it wasn't my fault, so annoying!!!
However, after the accident I gave them a call ... ...help with my personal injury!
Overall Overall, Endsleigh are ok, bit annoyed that as my car was written off they didn't give me descent money back to buy another car even after so many arguments.
I think all insurers are ok until you make a claim! ...

Advantages: low low cost insurance, very professional, close proximity to university, extensive policies Disadvantages: none i have experienced to date
Endsleigh offer extensive insurance policies for the most competitive prices imaginable! They insure muscial instruments, household and special items, cars, travel insurance, you name it. Another advantage is that they have an insurance shop INSIDE my university Union building, Sheffield University, and it is no small brrom cupboard either! It is a spacious office with comfortable seating, magazines to read, and 3 insurance salepersons at desks. ... ...I have been with Endsleigh for 2 years now, covering my household insurance. My insurance is very very competitive. They allow me to insure items I take out of the house and against accidental damage including my glasses, which is really helpful (as I have a tendency to break them sometimes). I have never had to make a claim but I am sure that I would have no problem, if its anything like the service I have had so far. ...

Advantages: Cheap, helpful and all round, very good Disadvantages: none
...looking for student posessions insurance, Endsleigh are the one. While at uni last year, I was very stupid in dropping my lap top on the floor. The screen was mangled and basically it wasn't worth repairing. Endsleigh paid for a brand spank laptop to the same spec as the old one and the claim was settled in a couple of weeks.
Their cover is very good and their premiums are cheap too!! I was very impressed by their professionalism and I will certainly ...

Advantages: Cheap, straightforward, offers good rates for students Disadvantages: Terrible customer service, incompetent, departments don't communicate with each other
I have had so many problems with Endsleigh that I really want to share my experiences. I chose them for my first car insurance provider as they offered one of the cheapest rates and I knew the name as I had used them in the past for student contents insurance. For the first year and a half all was well until a had a minor bump on a roundabout. The accident was not my fault, there was no damage to the other vehicle and as as the only damage to my car was some scratches on the bumper, I decided not to make a claim. I dutifully reported the accident to Endsleigh and said I would not be claiming. I was informed that the other party had not been in touch and would have three months to do so. Six months later my renewal was due but the quote seemed ridiculously high so I called them to query and was told it was because I had made a claim ...

Advantages: Service, nothing is too much trouble Disadvantages: none yet
I have been with Endsleigh for quite some time now (probably around 5 years!) either through sheer bone-idleness, apathy and just a general feeling that all insurance companies are pretty much the same. They have always given me competitive quotes which obviously I have accepted and continued with them.
My car insurance was due for renewel recently, and partly due to the credit crunch and a distinct lack of money (why has everything gone up!?!?!) I decided to use the msn search for the best insurance quotes, Endsleigh's came out on top, and was significantly cheaper than I had already been quoted by them. Obviously I called to enquire and check that I had entered the correct details...The operator, whos name I forget now, was lovely, sooo very helpful and after confirming all my information came up with an even better quote! Which I ...

Advantages: Price, discounts available if you ask Disadvantages: Online vs Telephone quotes' prices
I am in the process of collecting insurance quotes for my car, and as I am a student (in name, if nothing else) I decided to try Endsleigh as they have links to the NUS and offer student discounts.
In the past I've always narrowed the list of companies and brokers in the following manner:
1) Only call those with freephone numbers.
2) Look for brokers/insurers who say they'll beat any quote and then play them off against each other
This year I've decided to use websites as this means that I can appear to be working when actually I am not! A visit to a few motoring websites (autotrader, fish4cars etc) yielded a few likely sites so off I went, into the cyber-wilderness
Endsleigh was the first choice because as I've said, I'm a student and they give student discounts. The online quote came to £301. I was that impressed that I ...
