I have had so many problems with Endsleigh that I really want to share my experiences. I chose them for my first car insurance provider as they offered one of the cheapest rates and I knew the name as I had used them in the past for student contents insurance. For the first year and a half all was well until a had a minor bump on a roundabout. The accident was not my fault, there was no damage to the other vehicle and as as the only damage to my car was some scratches on the bumper, I decided not to make a claim. I dutifully reported the accident to Endsleigh and said I would not be claiming. I was informed that the other party had not been in touch and would have three months to do so. Six months later my renewal was due but the quote seemed ridiculously high so I called them to query and was told it was because I had made a claim for the incident on the roundabout. I informed them that this was not the case, and my premium was recalculated and resent to me. When I didn't receive the revised quote, I called and Endsleigh resent it once more. When it still didn't turn up, I discovered that they had been sending it to my old address where fortunately my parents still live, and even though the first quote had been sent to my new address. By now my insurance was due in one day's time and despite all this, I felt I had no choice but to renew with Endsleigh. Big mistake.
Two months later, I received a letter from Endsleigh, informing me that someone was making a claim against me, my two years no claims would be removed with immediate effect and that I must pay £267 within the next two weeks. When I called the claims department I was told the claim was from the driver on the roundabout who had now decided to claim six months later. I queried this as I had been told the person had three months and was told that although it was unusual, the other driver actually had 6 years to make a claim. I told them I wanted to dispute this and they said they would set things in motion. I also told them that I was not prepared to pay the higher premium until this matter was settled which they agreed. Shortly afterwards I received a second letter saying that I hadn't been in touch and demanding payment. I called again to explain the situation, emphasising that the matter was under investigation. Shortly after that I received a final letter saying that because I hadn't been in touch they would have no alternative but to cancel my insurance. Incidentally, all letters were signed by a different person, and one was simply initialled. I called yet again and discovered that the matter was being dealt with by two different departments who evidently were not communicating with each other. I was basically told I had to pay or else and that the money would be refunded once my case had been fully investigated (if it was ruled in my favour). At no point was I told what this money was for, or given any options of how to pay until I asked if I could pay in installments as I would struggle to give them a lump sum. Finally, they relented slightly and said I could pay it over a three month period.
For the following few months I continued to receive patchy correspondence from the Endsleigh claims department and the first few letters continued to be sent to my old address. The letters were all written as though the claim had already been settled and the money paid out to the other party. I wrote a letter to complain but Endsleigh continued to treat me as if I was the defendent rather than the injured party. I never felt like they were on my side, or that they were arguing my case. For instance, nothing was ever said or it was never investigated why the other driver decided to claim six months after the accident and for what turned out to be a very minor cosmetic repair. Finally, Endsleigh offered me 50/50 as there were no witnesses to the accident. I said no as the accident was not my fault. On two occasions, Endsleigh sent strongly worded letters threatening me with court if I did not accept 50/50. I still said no.
The case continued to drag on and on until almost a year and a half after the incident. Finally, Endsleigh wrote to me again and said that if I did pay 50/50, this would be £250, my 3 years no claims would be reinstated and I would be refunded any additional premiums I had paid. By now, I was so fed up of the whole thing I called and said that as I had already paid £267, to please refund me the £17 and keep the rest. Unbelievably, I was told that as it involved two different departments, I would have to be sent a cheque for the £267 and then send back the money to the other department. I asked the person if they would kindly check first if it could be done as I had suggested as the other way seemed rather inefficient. He checked and called me back to say that would be fine, a cheque would be issued for the remaining amount and my no claims reinstated. I received a new insurance certificate accordingly.
I was annoyed that I'd had to pay but after almost two years I was just happy that the whole thing was finally sorted (although I am still waiting for my £17). I vowed never to use Endsleigh again and had the perfect excuse when I received my new premium. Once again it was ridiculously high. I called them and discovered that the reason for this was because they had not taken into account my reinstated three years no claims. They revised the quote but it was still very high even though it was only for third party, fire and theft. I've now transferred to another insurance company who have given me a lower quote than this for fully comprehensive.
I hope that I never have to deal with Endsleigh again.
...just so happens that it's Endsleigh at the moment..i suppose it will change at some point. Getting a cheap quote is a bit of luck really. Companies like Endleigh are dependent on the prices offered by the underwriters which can vary considerably from month to month. Obviously the length of time you've been driving, the car you drive, cover required and no claims bonuses are the main factors. Even given these variables, though, there is a significant ... ...in my case.
A word of warning to those people using Endleigh and paying monthly by direct-debit. They told me that the APR was 12% which was very reasonable. They didn't tell me about the administration charge or the payment protection insurance. The latter added about £ 3 - 4 on my monthly payment and was completely unnecessary. They only give you a monthly premium without PPI if you specifically ask for it. A bit cheeky really. The admin. charge ...

...else) I decided to try Endsleigh as they have links to the NUS and offer student discounts. In the past I've always narrowed the list of companies and brokers in the following manner:
1) Only call those with freephone numbers.
2) Look for brokers/insurers who say they'll beat any quote and then play them off against each other

Endsleigh was the first choice because as I've said, I'm a student and they give student discounts. The online quote came to £301. I was that impressed that I nearly spilt my coffee (nearly). Now, my situation isn't going to be identical to everyone else's, but as a guide, last year's premium (Norwich Union Direct) was about 420 pounds with a 250 pound excess. Given that Endsleigh only wanted a 100 pound excess, this ...

I hate endsleigh and will never insure with them as long as I live for many reasons of which there are probably too many to write in this opinion without my falling asleep or working myself into a rage due to endsleighs incompetence all round. Where shall I begin.... For starters, I can only talk for one branch, namely the one in Warwick University which has been the bane of my life for a year now. And...I'm not even insured with them! I'll start ... ...popped into endsleigh on campus because I wanted to buy a car, and fancied getting an idea of what I was into on the insurance. The woman in endsleigh was very friendly, if a little pushy, but helped me quite a lot. Even though the quotes were high, I had an idea of what car I should and shouldn't be looking for. A little bit sad that I couldn't have a Porsche, I went on my way happily. A couple of days later I was rudely awoken at 11am by endsleigh ...

I joined Endsleigh because they were being promoted by universities as being good for students, and they undercut my last policy by £50 so I decided to go with them.
By this time I already had 1 years no claims bonus. I was 9 months through my policy when I decided to get a new car to replace my existing banger.
When I went to change my insurance I was told that I could'nt because they were in a law suit with my insurers, ... ...not afford to stay with Endsleigh and pay £400 more for insurance when I could get it cheaper elsewhere. In the end I had no choice but to cancel.
Thinking I almost had 2 years no claims, I was now back where I started at 1 year. Update

I had a renewal quote for my last policy and found that they were asking too much due to supposed rises in insurance. Previous to this Endsleigh sent me a letter asking me to give them a call to receive ...

Advantages: Cheapest Quote I Found Disadvantages: Phone Calls
...the road.
I joined Endsleigh last month, after being with Norwich Union for 2 years. I had just received my Norwich Union Quote of about £810 fully comp, so I started doing every online quote I could find. The best 3 were Endsleigh (£458), Churchill (£465), then AA (£495). Within 10 minutes I got a phone call on my mobile, I ignored it because I was at work and it was a unknown number (I don't answer unknown numbers). I found out later (from the ... ...I re-did the quote with Endsleigh and it came to £415, so I went with this. Again, within 10 minutes, another unknown number on my mobile, and another voicemail.
I phoned them back later. The phone rang twice, and then a real person answered, Kim, who was very friendly and helpful. I was told that the online quote wasn't completely accurate, and after taken some more details, I was told that the best quote they could give me was £458 fully comp. ...

Advantages: Great value, great customer service Disadvantages: Not sure what they would be like for larger amounts!
Having moved into a new (rented) flat, I needed to organise my contents insurance. So, I duly went online and got a number of instant quotes, all of which seemed fairly reasonable. Undecided about which to take up, I thought I'd mull it over for a while.
However, on arriving home I received a phonecall the very same evening from Endsleigh, following up my enquiry - this impressed me straight away (particularly as none of the other companies have ever contacted me).
The lady at the other end of the phone explained who she was, went through all the details I had provided on line to clarify them, asked a few more questions, then gave me details of the three best policies. She was extremely helpful and within 5 minutes cover was arranged.
It was far more comprehensive than I needed, but for only a less than £10 a month I wasn ...

Advantages: Cheap, helpful and all round, very good Disadvantages: none
Thats right, if you are looking for student posessions insurance, Endsleigh are the one. While at uni last year, I was very stupid in dropping my lap top on the floor. The screen was mangled and basically it wasn't worth repairing. Endsleigh paid for a brand spank laptop to the same spec as the old one and the claim was settled in a couple of weeks.
Their cover is very good and their premiums are cheap too!! I was very impressed by their professionalism and I will certainly be staying with them for as long as I am a student. They also do special discount rates for students on car insurance although I don't think that will make them too cheap for me as I am just about to return to the roads from a 2 year ban ...

Advantages: I got my payout in the end. Disadvantages: It took a long, long time
There are lots of things to consider when choosing insurance, not least what it costs and what you get for your money. Luckily, I have never had to be the one responsible for home insurance, having been covered by parental or company insurance in most places I have lived. However, since September this year I have been fighting a battle with Endsleigh that has only just come to an end. If all you care about is saving money then this op will not be all that informative ? you need to get online and crawl around for quotes to meet your needs, comparing the best different companies can offer you. But, if you are the sort of person who likes to know that, should the need arise, claiming on your insurance will be a relatively efficient and pain free process, then what I am about to say may well influence you to scrap Endsleigh from your list ...
