I hate endsleigh and will never insure with them as long as I live for many reasons of which there are probably too many to write in this opinion without my falling asleep or working myself into a rage due to endsleighs incompetence all round.
Where shall I begin....
For starters, I can only talk for one branch, namely the one in Warwick University which has been the bane of my life for a year now. And...I'm not even insured with them!
I'll start at the beginning...
June 1999...
I popped into endsleigh on campus because I wanted to buy a car, and fancied getting an idea of what I was into on the insurance. The woman in endsleigh was very friendly, if a little pushy, but helped me quite a lot. Even though the quotes were high,
I had an idea of what car I should and shouldn't be looking for. A little bit sad that I couldn't have a Porsche, I went on my way happily. A couple of days later I was rudely awoken at 11am by endsleigh woman on my mobile 'phone asking to speak to me. I haven't even got a car! How I can buy insurance without a car eludes me. She told me that the rates had dropped, but only for today would I be able to buy cheap insurance. Cheap insurance on a non-existent car, very sensible.
She left me alone for a few weeks...until...
July 1999...
I bought a car nad as luck would have it, was panicking about insurance when endsleigh woman rang me again. She quoted me 800 quid (with student discount I might add), and as it was my first quote, I wasn't going to rush to give her my switch details. So, I rang around and found a lovely quote for 400 quid. I was happy and accepted that. A couple of days after I had my car and was well and truly taxed, insured and on the road, lo and behold another call from endsleigh woman on my mobile. She was most surprised that they hadn't quoted me the lowest price, and bombarded me with questions accusing me of having a 10 month bonus accellerator policy (which is, I agree with her, useless), and being insured with a crap insurer! Not to name names, but I'd say that Admiral were fairly well known and reliable, but she disagreed and I got rather angry. Already having insurance there was nothing she could do with me, and she left me for a whole 12 months, until...
July 2000...
I'd had my car a year and my insurance was up for renewal on the 21st. I renewed with my present insurers and was happy with the 350 quid I forked out. On the 24th July, endsleigh woman rang. Bit late. So I told her that I was already insured and that I renewed on the 21st. She still insisted on giving me a quote and again, pushed for a sale. "Insuring the same car twice is illegal" I told her, and she left me alone again for 11 months, until..
June 2001...
In this year I'd had a friend who was insured with endsleigh have an accident in which his car was written off. What endsleigh hadn't told him was that his insurance company had gone bust and he was borderline on not being insured. That was nice of them.
Anyway, back to my story...
I'd changed my mobile. Hoorah. No calls from endsleigh woman I thought. But I was wrong. Unbeknown to me, she'd rang my home in Bristol, and persuaded my mother to divulge my new number. In fact, she'd rang up my mum and told her that I was insured with endsleigh and my policy was up for renewal! Well that's not right...so at 11am again, she rang me on my mobile. I answered, explaining that my insurance was up for renewal on July 21st and not anywhere near June 8th, and she said that she couldn't give me a quote yet but would ring back nearer the time. It was as if I'd rang her!
I quickly gave endsleigh's number the name "endsleigh, beware" on my mobile and it shall stay like that forever.
On June 24th she rang again. She thought I'd said that I renewed at the end of June, which meant that she got both the month and the date wrong, because I renew on the 21st July! Silly woman. She gave me an extortionate quote of 800 quid again, and went away.
She rang again on June 29th, leaving 5 missed calls and two answer 'phone messages. So I bit the bullet and went in to the office to speak to her. Endsleigh woman had changed into a new, more annoying variety with a computer that didn't work, but I perservered with the quote and it still came up at 800 quid.
I haven't heard from them since, but I have not doubt that come June next year, she'll be on my mobile 24-7 trying to sell me stuff.
If you contact them once, they will never let you go!
Keep away.
