I'm a 21 year old student, been driving for 2 years, with 3 years no claims (because of Pass Plus). I drive an M reg (1994) Nissan Micra and do about 8000 miles a year. I keep it parked on the road.
I joined Endsleigh last month, after being with Norwich Union for 2 years. I had just received my Norwich Union Quote of about £810 fully comp, so I started doing every online quote I could find. The best 3 were Endsleigh (£458), Churchill (£465), then AA (£495). Within 10 minutes I got a phone call on my mobile, I ignored it because I was at work and it was a unknown number (I don't answer unknown numbers). I found out later (from the voicemail that they had left) that this was Endsleigh calling to talk about my online quote.
When I got home I found I'd entered some of the information wrong in the online quotes (I'd put 2 years no claims instead of 3). I re-did the quote with Endsleigh and it came to £415, so I went with this. Again, within 10 minutes, another unknown number on my mobile, and another voicemail.
I phoned them back later. The phone rang twice, and then a real person answered, Kim, who was very friendly and helpful. I was told that the online quote wasn't completely accurate, and after taken some more details, I was told that the best quote they could give me was £458 fully comp. I was told I'd been given a 20% student discount, given to all students, and this was through Zurich Insurance. Since this was by far the best quote I had been given, and about £350 cheaper than Norwich Union, I took it. I decided to pay it off in one lump sum, instead of the monthly payments. Doing this saved me £50.30 on the interest. Kim told me that she would do the same, to get it out of the way. As for excesses, Accidental Damage - £300, Malicious Damage - £300, and Fire and Theft - £100.
I decided to switch my breakdown cover to Endsleigh as well (which I had through Norwich Union). It wasn't any cheaper, at £55, but I got it anyway to keep things simple. My car is over 10 years old now, so apparently it's more expensive because of the parts. This was for Roadside Assistance - Standard, and was through Europ Assistance Holdings Irish Branch.
From there, everything went smoothly, and I told Norwich Union I didn't want to renew with them. I did get a phone call the next day to talk to me about my online quote and I told them I'd already sorted it with them the day before. They aren't the most organised, but all the papers were sent quickly, and I'm now with Endsleigh. I haven't had to claim, and hopefully I won't have to.
I'm very happy with Endsleigh, and would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking of renewing their insurance. I'm planning on going traveling next year, and the first call I'll make will be to Endsleigh for travel insurance.

I've just got my first car (today) - like you I have a Micra - and also like you I have filled in many online quotes finding £500 differences between them which is more than the car's worth anyway. Endsleigh are the only ones who consistently give me low quotes, but I decided to come on Ciao and see what I could find out about others' experiences with them. Sounds like they might have a deal. Good review.

Excellent review. I shall be giving Endsleigh a call when I come to renew. What is Kim's number?

Just goes to show what a bit of shopping about can achieve, although personally I think the excesses are a bit steep, but I suppose that helps keep the annual premium costs down.
