Advantages: something for everyone Disadvantages: You wont want to leave
We often get the task of taking our son’s girlfriend back and forth from home to her University. To do this we have to drive down the A38 towards Plymouth. About mid way at the turning off for Ivybridge there is my favourite shop of all time. It is very easy to get to and is very well signposted. There is no way on earth I can possibly go past it without popping in. The shop well centre really is “Endsliegh Garden Centre”. It is so much more than just gardening and I really think the management must sit down on occasions and try to think of all the different types of people that might call. It really does cater for everyone.
When you first get there, the first thing is the car park. It is quite large enough and arranged to suit different needs. There is parking for regular people, parking spaces close to the door reserved for disabled people on one side and parent and child to the other, A space right up the end for coaches and something I have never seen anywhere else, a place slightly coved with a wood construction to provide shade for people to park with pets in their cars. Being someone whose little dog goes most places with her this is essential.
Once parked the entrance leads directly into the garden centre part where you can buy almost anything from plant food to birdseed. Just beyond that there is an open-air place where they keep the plants etc they have a very large verity. Beyond that they have all the shed’s, green houses, large garden planters etc. The range is huge with plenty of verity to choose from.
From the indoor part of the garden area, you pass a clothing store. Here you can buy jumpers and country style clothing. Just on from that is an area where they sell children’s toys, books and things. They are like little shops within the main store.
After that you come to the pet section. Here you can many types of pet food and equipment. They have a selection of small animals for sale ranging from things like mice and hamsters to lizards and spiders. It’s a bit like going to the zoo; only it doesn’t cost you anything to get in. The animals all seem very well cared for as well, which I think is so important.
There is a lovely gifts department with some very impressive items that cover a very wide price range. The range is huge from expensive figurines to scented candles. There are pieces from a very high price right down to quite a few things price around £1.99 and less that are very nice. Not at all cheap looking. Its almost like the buyer really stops to think about different people with different tastes and different budgets.
There is sweet section that has several different tables labelled for different diets. Such as diabetic’s, vegetarians and gluten free etc. There is a wide range of sugar free jams and spreads and of coarse my favourite lots of chocolate.
Then there are the toilets. These are one of the cleanest I have ever had the pleasure of using, which like the rest of the entire centre is totally accessible to the disabled. The whole place is accessed by ramps, which are really nice and wide. I don’t think there are any steps in the whole garden centre.
The last place is one I like to spend a lot of time in. The Cafeteria is lovely, again it caters for everyone, the menu may not very big but is well varied. If you like fish, they do a lovely fresh Haddock, which is cooked to perfection. There are choices for the meat lover, which includes roast Lamb, curries, and salads for the veggies, there’s allsorts. The meals are cooked to order and don’t take too long, but if you are in a hurry they also do express meals such as Shepard’s pie, pasta bake or jacket potato with a good selection of toppings. My favourite is prawn; this isn’t a load of sauce with two or three prawns floating in it. It more prawns than you could shake a stick to all heaped up falling down onto the plate. There are two isles for the cafeteria, which only one is open unless they are busy.
All in all Endsliegh Garden centre is more than just a shop, it is a day out. Well it is for me I usually have to be dragged out screaming. The main thing about them as I have already said is the fact they have something for every one. I do hope if you’re ever near there you will pop in. The staff are always helpful and pleasant the checkouts are always well manned. The whole centre is clean with a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
...watching paint dry. But with Endsleigh it is different, as this review will seek to find out. Endsleigh is situated on the outskirts of Ivybridge, a decent sized small town some 10 miles away from central Plymouth. It is visible from the main A38 route from Plymouth to Exeter, but you actually have to leave the main route and just skim through a little bit of Ivybridge in order to get there. It is of course well signposted on the main road, from ... ...plenty of car parking which is good, although on busy day it can be quite full. There are a number of disabled spaces just by the entrance, and a feature I like is sheltered parking underneath trees for those people with dogs. As with everywhere, it is only guide/ assistance dogs who are allowed inside. Once inside, you are treated to a whole host of items besides plants etc. Of course as a garden centre, they hold every line imaginable from bedding ...

Quick review of Endsleigh Garden Centre
Endsleigh Garden Centre is very expensive, you can find almost anything they sell cheaper elsewhere. The cafe is usually crowded and not a great experience.
That said, they do have a vast stock of goods, more like an out of town shopping centre, and you can find gifts in china, books etc to suit anybody.
So I go there sometimes with a shopaholic girlfriend, but if its the garden itself I am shopping for, I go elsewhere, for more choice and better value. ...
