Advantages: Good lecturers, facilities, close to amenities
Disadvantages: Sheffield, if youve never been visit to make sure you like the city.

...I am currently studying at the University of Sheffield on the postgraduate course, Environmental Management of Urban Land and Water. #About the department The Civil and structural engineering courses have been rated as the 2nd best in the country for the second year running in the guardian. My course is part of the civil engineering, so my views of lectures and course will be about that aspect. Although any comments about the department in general will still apply as we share the same facilities. ~ Lecturers' Lecturers who have taught me are all part of the Groundwater Protection and Restoration Group (GPRG), this is a large research group which combines international quality scientific research, supported by engineering applications and wide dissemination. Advantages: Exam is hard
Disadvantages: No coordination

...Well, if anyone want to pursue his or her Master in Engineering, do bother to choose Strathclyde. I was in the MAster in Power Engineering course. Eventhough, it is one of the biggest and top department in the whole UK, but top in what sense. It is only during the tough examination question that makes it the top Power engineering department. Apart from this, the structure of the course is poor, one will certainly miss 30% of the lectures due to cancelling of classes. In this course, there wouldn't be any seminar on the career prospect for student. The life here is you just pay the tuition fees, attend the lectures if there are any and sit for the exam. You fail the exam you are out. If you pass, then proceed to thesis. After that you just leave.... Read review

Disadvantages: No practical work in first year

...Although I'm only in 2nd year, the course has been relatively enjoyable so far. The lecturers are all quite extroverted and it's usually worth turning up on a Friday morning if only to laugh at Rod Carnegie (you have to meet this guy to beleive him). The first year's pretty easy although like any course it does get harder, the Engineering Applications in 2nd year was our first taste of practical work and it's been a good laugh, we've also learned how PCBs are made in electronics manufacture. I would have to reccomend Strathclyde for any form of engineering simply for it's reputaion and links with industry - employers are always around the place advertising for available graduates and summer internships...
