Part time CELTA Oxford...
CELTA courses are by nature exremely hard work, but on the whole are usually very rewarding. I knew, from having spoken to my friends who had already taken the CELTA certificate, that the course would be demanding and I was more than prepared to put in the hours.
Firstly, I have to say that this course in no way takes into account the fact that students are working while they are taking the course. While most PT courses are tues, thurs and every other sat, this course is mondays as well. Having taken the course I can say that they only seem to need this extra day so that they can constantly change the timetable.
Our tutor was away for 2 weeks in the first month of our course, which meant that we had to squeeze our teaching practices into less weeks, while also doing our assignments.
Overall our tutors have been very good at teaching, but have left many people feeling like they have had little support when it comes to the actual teaching practice. They are given mixed messages (praise one week, and then when they have given a better lesson the next week they are criticised) and confusing and hastily written lesson guides.
Finally, as a part time student at Oxford House college it is nearly impossible to use the library or facilities. You can't take any of the books out and the librarian has brought people who are already very stressed to tears with her extremely unhelpful attitude.
Overall I would recommend that if you are taking a part time course you take it at one of the many other london colleges
