My course, well I've just finished my first year of it, and am looking forward to my second year. It's an interesting take on an English course as the University doesn't do a straight English Lit degree. Hence in your first year you'll do a mix of Lit, Lang, Anglo Saxon, basically a very varied look at the subject from all angles. The second and third years offer a lot of freedom of choice, and because of the broadness of the first year (which doesn't count towards your degree), you'll be in a good position to know what you like. Good department, mixed staff (some inspirational, others insane) and a great fun University.
Advantages: Scope for learning more than just literature; Good tutors Disadvantages: Not quite sure what it wants to be; Old English is pointless
...on the joys of Old English grammar. There are no positives about this module, and thankfully I withdrew before I had to do this coursework.
-Drama. Before you worry, you are not being assessed by any acting talent you may have, but rather you're interpretation of the set plays (English 1500s onward in first year). You do have to act though, but it IS NOT assessed.
On top of that, there are extra credits which need to be filled; you can do this ... ...sciences or languages (I did Arabic and Cognitive Psychology).
-Quality of teaching. Overall, this was very good and I felt that if I had any problems with the work I could speak to my tutors about it. Whenever I emailed them with a small problem it was swiftly resolved. -Quality of lectures. I found these to be a bit hit and miss. Some were really informative, and others tended to ramble and go off the topic.
-Quality of facilities. The main library ...

Advantages: A great opportunity to meet people from all over the world Disadvantages: Pay isn't great
Living on the Kent coast as I do, we seem to be well provided for with English Language schools - there are 3 within walking distance of my home. The Folkestone School of EnglishStudies (SES) is by far the most professional of the three in my opinion, (more of which later) and for the past year has been a fairly constant source of students for us to play host to.
The obvious advantages of being a host family are:
1) The extra money. OK, it's not brilliant, but every little helps! It pays around £175 per fortnight for adults and slightly more for under 18s. For this, you provide a room (obviously!), breakfast and evening meal on weekdays and a packed lunch at weekends. Sometimes under18's are required to have a packed lunch during the week as well, so that means full board. SES pay regularly straight into my bank account, and you ...

programmes.
In 1991 the UK was introduced to The Kumon Maths programme. This was followed in 1995 by the English programme. Nationwide there are over 500 study centres.
Worldwide Kumon is studies in over 40 countries. Apart from Japan and the UK, Kumon is established in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, South Africa, Spain and the U.S.A.
WHAT IS KUMON?
--------------------------
Kumon can be studied by a child of any age and no matter what their abilities are. Adults can also benefit from learning this way, but that does tend to be done by correspondence rather than attending a study centre. Students attend these study centres which are run by a fully trained Kumon Instructor. They attend either once or twice a week and each visit can vary in time depending on your child, usually it is between 30-45 minutes per visit ...
Advantages: year abroad, diverse course Disadvantages: reasonalby expensive, coming back to the UK
Having just completed the four year American Studies course that no longer exists in the same format as it did during my degree I can recommed Manchester University as a great place to study American literature, society, politics and history. Although English and American Studies appear linked in the departments name they are very distinct from each other and overlap in literature courses but in little else. The American Studies course which gave me the opportunity to spend a year in America is far more worthwhile than the title suggests. Students can effectively specialise in what areas they prefer over the years and each student will have a very different course record. Some choose literature, others international politics which helps the just out of school student to not have to force themselves into a specific interest in their first ...
