Advantages: FREEEEEEEE Disadvantages: 2 hour kick off
I came across the recommendations for Surf Saver while searching for alternatives to Screaming.Net (see opinion elsewhere!). There were lots of negative prognostications - too good to be true; couldn't last; they were going to run off with all our £39s. But I thought - even if it goes under, it doesn't take long to rack up £39 in calls, so why worry.
In fact, it's working very well. Sometimes slow connection and kicks you out after ... ...recommended my daughter to it - it took more than the stated 48 hours to get linked up and she paid a lot in 0870 calls, trying to get hold of some one. But freefone registration number now working again - daughter says a 'very cheery man' answered and she's now up and running - and we can chat on line via MSN with nowt to pay at either end!

Advantages: friendly and helpful department, interesting and well taught modules Disadvantages: more choice in modules perhaps, but otherwise great
Ok...so I have just finished my first year as an English undergraduate at the University of Leicester, and I can tell you I have had the time of my life.
I feel one hundred percent settled in my chosen area of study owing to the excellent support and enthusiasm from staff in the department, after initially feeling a bit out of my depth.
I know it sounds silly as I chose to do an English degree, however one of the major shocks when I started was the amount of reading expected of me. In my first semester. It was certainly much more than for my combined lang/lit A Level. But you do learn ways to get over this.

Advantages: globally respected uni, friendly atmosphere, intellectually challenging and rewarding course Disadvantages: london can be an expensive place to live

However, if you are passionate and involved in literature you stand a good chance at impressing at the interview. The staff seem to be looking for a genuine enthusiasm, as well as wide reading and a literary mindset.
And it is well worth it if you do get an offer! Having studied at UCL I am very pleased it was my first choice, I wouldn't want to have spent my university years anywhere else. It has been a fun yet hard-working few years.
Overall, UCL has a great reputation, world class lecturers, beautiful buildings and a central London location. The English department more ...

Advantages: Welfare tutors, receptionists, an interesting course Disadvantages: The majority of tutors, the majority of students, contact hours, the guild
After coming to my third year of an English BA at Birmingham University (and sorry for being as a snob, but NO I do not mean the UCE), but I believe I am finally able to complete a full and decent review on the subject?if anything because I am finally annoyed enough to have a good and proper whine. In fact this was how this review started - me whining about the university to a member of Dooyoo?you know who you are, and thank you for listening!
Birmingham University
The University of Birmingham is a red brick university which was founded in Edgbaston in 1900, but its origins go back to the 1825 Birmingham Medical School. It belongs to the Russell group of research universities which is a group of the 20 supposed best universities for research. This does not however bode so well for undergraduates like me, more will be explained ...
