Lots of pain - no gain
Advantages none at all unless you're a masochist
Disadvantages ineffective and expensive way to induce pain
Relaxing flicking through the TV channels one afternoon I paused at one of those half hour long TV ads for mail order products. The product was called Epil-Stop, claimed to be a fantastic cream for removing unwanted hair from any part of the body - including the face. Numerous women were depicted raving about the virtues of this wonder cream which removes hair from the root and discourages growth for up to three months - yes three months. This sounded brilliant.
Encouraged by my 14 year old daughter whose already fed up with shaving her legs (wait til you get to my age girlie) I succumbed to the hype of TV advertising. The cost was nearly £35 including postage but what the hell - this product sounded worth it. WRONG!!I used Epil-Stop strictly in accordance with the written instructions. 15 minutes later I was in agony. I used the cream along the bikini line and under the arms and also tried a little on a small area of my face. The face was OK but the arms - oh my goodness. Not only was the result patchy but my skin turned red and sore. It felt like a chemical burn, every time I moved my arms, which one does quite a bit in the course of ordinary life not surprisingly, the pain was there. I was so concerned I even showed the burning to a nurse. To make matters worse I couldn't shave underarm for some while so had more hair there instead of less.
The bikini line was not so bad burnwise, but once again the product failed to give an even result as far as hair removal was concerned. As for discouraging regrowth for three months - utter rubbish. I am once again in my usual routine of shaving underarm and Satinelle on legs.It must be said that I do not have sensitive skin and I am not a wimp in the pain department. I have five children and use the Phillips Satinelle (the one with the rotating discs) on all areas of my body. I returned the Epil Stop and requested a refund. The moral of the story is either don't believe everything you're told OR do the housework instead of watching daytime TV.
