Advantages: Big sound, Big tone Disadvantages: Big body is not good for some tastes
First off, I will explain quickly the main specifications on this beautiful guitar:
Spruce top, Maple back, sides and neck, Jumbo sized guitar, No cutaway.
This guitar is absolutely gorgeous. If you find a picture of it, you will know exactly what I mean. First impressions on this guitar are that it looks wonderful, and is a very big bodied guitar.
This may take some getting used to, but after the first few plays, it becomes easier. The tone on this guitar is well suited for many aspects of playing; I personally am an indie/rock player, but it suits blues and plays jazzy styles well too.
It isdefinitely more of a strummers guitar than a solo-ers (if that's a correct term) guitar. THe higher frets are harder to reach, and with no cutaway, getting above 15 is pretty hard. The neck is very smooth and fast to play on, almost begging ...
Advantages: Sturdy, looks great, sounds amazing Disadvantages: stigma of being epiphone and not gibson
In my opinion this is a brilliant sturdy guitar, that is built to the highest quality of epiphone standards being its top of the range. Having played the cheapest gibson les paul and most expensive epiphone les paul custom i would settle for the epiphone every time, which is why i own one of those over the cheapest gibson les paul.
The quality of build, i feel, is very superior to the quality of all other epiphone electric guitars and the binding and inlay is just beautiful.
The sound of this guitar is fantastic, far superior to the sound of my fender strat, peavey whitesnake signature and ESP viper, i would choose this guitar over them all for sound and if it ever got broke, lost or stolen i would definitely buy another one! ...
Advantages: Looks and sounds great Disadvantages: needs a little tinkering to get just right
I bought the Epiphone Thunderbird from Merchant City Music online, having never played it, for aroung £230, purely because it looked great. A fairly conceted reason for buying a guitar I know but I have to say I am very happy with it. I did some research before buying it and was aware of the "neck dive" problem before purchasing it. On receiving the bass (the very next day from placing order) I quickly rectified the problem by fixing a strap button to the back of the bass, why epiphone don't fit these as standard is beyond me, problem solved! I also removed the cheap looking plastic volume pots and replaced with die-cast black metal ones. The bass itself, despite it's looks, doesn't lend itself to pick players becasue of the positioning of the pick-ups. I usually play with a pick and had to adopt a slightly different playing position to ...
