The Epson EMP-TW10H is brilliant!
When I went to look for projectors in several shops I realised my fears that I wasn’t going to be bale to get a decent one for under a grand that would be good for a home cinema. Obviously, like most, I don’t just have this kind of money just floating around for me to use and I would have to think very seriously about such a purchase. Then I saw the Epson EMP-TW10H and was surprised at how cheap even for any projector it was. It was retailing in PC world for £300. So I thought there is no harm in asking about it. The assistant informed me that unfortunately it wouldn’t be able to handle moving images and that it would be no use for a home cinema, but I persisted and asked to see it in action. The shop assistant brushed the dust of the old charm and started it up with a DVD and he himself was surprised by the outstanding colour, quality and general playback. He then rushed upstairs to retrieve the last one from the shops warehouse for himself. I immediately purchased one and have been extremely satisfied ever since.
^^^General Information^^^
Device Type: LCD projector Built-in Devices: Speaker Width: 40.2 cm Depth: 29.4 cm Height: 11.4 cm Weight: 3.6 kg
^^^Picture Quality^^^
The quality as I have already explained is particularly impressive. I find it better than most LCD TV’s. The colour quality is just as good and it all offers for a superior viewing experience that is just as good as your local movie theatre except in your own home for £300. What more could you want?
The colour and picture quality settings can be adjusted easily through the straightforward accessible menu button located on the top of the projector. The menu is simple to follow and you can adjust picture and colour settings such as: Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Tint, Colour temperature, Flesh tone, and Sharpness. In all of these there is a reasonably large adjustability from one end to another, for example in politics left wing to right wing. It also offers 4 colour setting to suit the environment you are projecting in, these include: Dynamic, Living Room, Theatre and Theatre Black. These colour settings account for interchangeable environments and are very useful and mean the projector can also be used outside on a hot summer night to watch a movie with your friends, which I might add is a truly fulfilling experience.
Adjusting the picture size, position and focus could never be easier. For the picture size there is a small slider which increases and decreases the size as you move it from size to side. Position/Keystone can also be adjusted easily as there are screws on the underside of the projector that allow it to be raised and as for the keystone, if you want to project onto a sloping wall or at an angle you can make the projection square appearing as if you are projecting onto a level/flat surface with little angle. This is done easily through the menu and to adjust the keystone you merely press up or down once selecting the keystone option.
There are also three separate aspects that you can use which you may be familiar with they are: Normal, Squeeze and Zoom View. I personally find Squeeze and Zoom useless and can’t see why many TV’s etc have these settings but hay…where would we be without normal?
More specific details of the picture and colour settings our as follows:
Resolution: 854 x 480 (native) / 1024 x 768 (compressed) Native Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Video Bandwidth: 162 MHz Display Format: 1,229,760 pixels (854 x 480 x 3) Colour support: 24-bit (16.7 million colours) Max Sync Rate (V x H): 85 Hz x 92 kHz Max screen size: 300” (This is huge and as long as you are at a reasonable distance retains a good picture and colour quality, that’s not to say its rubbish unless you are miles away though.)
^^^Bulb^^^
Bulb type: UHE 130 Watt Bulb life cycle: 2000 hour(s) if the bulb is set at the brightest settings, which isn’t needed in my opinion, I have tended to get close to 4000hours with my bulbs. Bulb price: £120
Now…£120 I hear you say? I know it seems expensive but it’s really not its even less than watching movies at the average cinema. I shall explain. This will account for several years of usage for one payment and is well worth it for the variety and compatibility of the projector as you can use it with hundreds of pieces of equipment which I will come to in just a second. Therefore I feel the bulb is a bargain.
One advantage to the bulb as it is easily changed and you could do it with the instructions provided with the bulb and a simple screwdriver, in some cases perhaps some other tools maybe needed but I never faced a problem like this.
^^^Compatibility^^^
The Epson EMD-TW10H is brilliant for me and serves many different functions. I have it hooked up with my: Computer, DVD Player, SKY Box, Playstation 2, Surround sound and often I use it for playback from my Sony handycam. Therefore I can use my computer with it and basically use it as a computer monitor, have a home cinema in my bedroom, watch hundreds of TV channels in luxurious conditions and chill on my bed playing games in a whole new realistic dimension of game play and best of all I can share the experience with my friends and invite them round to watch the football and have a drink on a Saturday.
More specific details of compatibility and ports:
Analogue Video Format: NTSC, SECAM, PAL, PAL-N, PAL-M, NTSC 4.43,PAL 60 Analogue video Signal: RGB, S-Video, composite video, component video
Interfaces: • 1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) • 1 x component video input - RCA x 3 • 1 x composite video input - RCA • 1 x audio line-in - RCA x 2 • 1 x S-video input • 1 x serial RS-232C - 9 pin D-Sub (DB-9) ( management ) Therefore the compatibility is truly exceptional and the projector can be well used in many different circumstances and you easily get your moneys worth. Incredible!
^^^Sound^^^
The sound quality on the projector is very good and can go quite loud but to really achieve the best cinematic experience and to do justice to the machine I thoroughly recommend investing in some form of external speakers although for a long period of time I was extremely happy with the built in speakers. The volume is also easily adjustable via two buttons on the top of the projector. I wouldn’t consider this as a disadvantage as I feel it is OK without external speakers although it is a set back to the movie experience. More detailed information: Sound Emission: 29 dB (This is sufficient) Type: Speaker(s) - integrated Sound Output Mode: Mono Output Power / Channel: 1 Watt Speaker(s): 1 x mixed channel
^^^Instillation/Mounting^^^
As the projector is not particularly new it doesn’t offer a very practical body for ceiling mounting as most of the buttons are on the top, it does although come with a controller which to be honest is small and awkward – another disadvantage. The projector has obviously been designed to stand or rest on something; I have mine on top of the shelves where I keep my DVD’s. I find this brilliant and would have thought that a mounting would be an unnecessary cost unless you were having serious trouble getting the projector level which I doubt you will encounter anyway unless where you put it is slanted. It can be easily resolved though by the screws underneath the projector. But it is worth while knowing that if you are buying it would be near impossible to mount it from the ceiling.
^^^Screen^^^
I project onto a clean white wall in my bedroom and feel that this is just as good as any screen that will set you back £100+ and will take up unnecessary space. My advice is if you have a white wall or a wall that could be painted white of decent size it is a much better solution to a screen.
^^^Fan^^^
There is a slight disadvantage that isn’t very noticible but I thought I ought to list it all the same. The fan that tries to keep the temperature between 5 and 35 degrees celcius is slightly loud but it really isn’t very noticeable and I urge you not to let this minor thing deter you from purchasing the Epson EMP-TW10H.
^^^Summary^^^
There isn’t much more to mention and I hope that I have helped you to decide upon buying the projector. Please do NOT fear the cheap price tag and mistake this projector for something that is not worth buying and rubbish as the price may lead you to believe in an expensive and competitive market of electronics. This projector is truly magnificent and I would recommend it to anyone.

Advantages: small box of tricks, easy to use Disadvantages: remote control is silly small but does the job.
I bought my Epson TW10H from OYYY.co.uk about 2 years ago for £469. The website itself is superb, very comprehensive and the aftersales service is second to none. More importantly for me, they're based in Halifax which is quite local for me and it's very difficult to beat them on price!
So the projector, what's it like? Well, I would consider this to be an entry level projector. I currently have mine hooked up to my sky+ box, desktop PC, Xbox 360 ... ...you need to have special Epson screws. If you don't you could end up doing what I had to do which is putting it on a shelf as I could remove the screws!! That aside it doesn't actually bother me that it's not wall mounted.
There is keystone adjustment which means if you're projecting at an angle you can get the image as square on to the viewers as possible. This only adjusts horizontally on this version though which can make complete adjustment ...

Quick review of Epson EMP TW10H
Great Product . Found it a very easy system to use and it is compatible with a wide range of applances. I have connected my xbox 360, wii, dvd x2 and my sky to the projector and find the picture quality to be excellent with all systems. I find if the projector is use in theatre black mode the fan is much quieter and the picture quality is much better. I found it very easy to mount on the ceiling my only problem was finding a beam in the ceiling to fix it to. The allow you to change the setup from ceiling fixing to stand alone to rear projection. I only had need to use ceiling projection. It is also a great value for money system for those of us who dont have huge amounts of cash to spend. ...
