The GT-8500 series is an A4 flatbed color scanner, which combines features, performance and price, making it the ideal scanner for the small business or home user. Its precision and quality will satisfy those with the most demanding DTP or OCR applications. It features a true 400 dpi optical resolution with the ability to output up to 3200 dpi with interpolation. It captures data at 10 bits per pixel, which means it can register over 1 billion colors (using 30 bits) or 1024 levels of gray. The GT-8500 series also offers a recent EPSON innovation - TET (or Text Enhancement Technology). This feature allows you to accurately scan text, even if it's printed over a colored background. This is a real convenience if you're dealing with material such as magazine articles or advertisements.

...I bought this graphics card last week in order to upgrade my machine to play the newest games using DirectX 10. The previous card I had was a GeForce 8500GT.
Immediately the difference between the cards is clear on paper. Not to mention the price difference. The 8500GT played most newer games on medium graphics settings with a below average frame rate.
The ASUS 8800GT was a completly different story. All the settings were maxed out with an average frame rate and no stuttering. This of course was on DirectX 9 as I don't run Vista. This card is though, definately worth buying as it is future-proof with SLi Capability. I bought it with this in mind. For precaution though, I also bought a new PSU to make sure all the power demands were met.
The card is fairly large though, it fits in my mATX tower, but is as long as my motherboard...

Advantages: Build Quality Looks Like It Will Last Forever Disadvantages: No Longer Made
...I have had a GT 7000 for over 2 years and have found it to be far better than the model currently being offered by them. It came with a SCSI card which in my mind is by far a better way of connecting a scanner than either parallel or USB. SCSI is faster than parallel by far, and compared with USB it is always present as PC's seem to lose USB devices for no reason. The software included Adobe PhotoDeluxe 2.0, Presto PageManger both very good programs.

I have upgrade to the latest version of the TWAIN driver from the Epson website which also includes support for Windows 95,98,Me,NT 4.0,2000 as well as Mac 7.5.1 and later. Which is good to see as so many firms don't seem to provide drivers for Windows Me. I so pleased with this scanner I strongly suggest you try and pick one up secondhand as they are so well built...
