Printers are marvellous things when they work!We bought an Epson DX4000 a couple of years ago after problems with our HP printer. It was reduced in Tesco and as it is a photo copier and printer we thought it was a bargain but decided to check out the cost of the cartridges before buying.
We have used various makes of cartridges over the years for previous printers but had been having problems and always having to clean to get good printing so we were wasting ink.
We got sample size cartridges with the printer but bought a Multipack so we were ready when a replacement was needed. The Multipack has 4 cartridges, 1 of each black, yellow, magenta and cyan. The box is blue with a picture of a Cheetah and is in the Cheetah range, there are other ranges like Monkey. Hummingbird and Seahorse makinh it easy to spot the one you want to buy. On the front is a list of models it is suitsble for too. The colour cartridges have 5.5mls and the black is slightly larger with 7.4mls.
Each cartridge is vacuumed packed inside the plastic box to keep it fresh and has a shelf life on the box, my latest one was for November 2010. Once opened - not an easy task! The cartridge should be shaken 4 or 5 times before removing the yellow tape and inserting following the instructions for your printer. Care should be taken not to touch the green strip on the cartridge as this contains the chip. I have never got ink on my fingers inserting these cartridges so think they deserve apoint compared to the cheaper ones we tried.
Epson recommend that you only use their products but I have used Tesco's compatible cartridges with good results but after problems using refills before I really like to stick with Epson or Tesco now.
I make cards for a hobby and print a lot of sheets for decoupage on Photo paper plus photographs for Scrapbooking which is another hobby, our printer is in use nearly everyday and whether I use ordinary paper, card or photo paper the results have always been excellent.
Quote from the Epson website "Epson DURABrite Ultra ink gives simply perfect prints, whatever you're printing. Each ink particle is coated in resin, making it water-, smudge- and fade-resistant."
I have to agree that newly printed photos have never smudged and so far nothing has faded. I am very pleased with the result and we get a lot of pages printed before replacing, unfortunately I can't say how many as it varies with what I'm printing.
On the Epson web site the Multipack costs £33.57 and free postage but Tesco sell it at £29.97 plus my Tesco points! Singles cost £9.79 at Epson so it is worth buying the Multipack. Sadly Tesco do not stock the single Epson cartridges now but have their own make if you need an extra black rather than stock piling colours if you use more black than colours. It is worth checking on the internet for bargain prices too.
My printer is getting busy printing things for making Christmas cards, I never have to perform maintenance cleaning as we did with the other printers and cheaper cartridges so although these are more expensive they last longer and give great results. First class.
