Advantages: Printer can be sited out of the way anywhere in the house Disadvantages: Installation was tricky
My wife is pleased because our printer no longer cloggs up the dining room table. My son and I are pleased because we can share a printer and print from any room in the house.
I chose a Belkin wirelessprintserver because I have a Belkin wireless broadband router and assumed that installation and compatibility issues would be avoided. As with other Belkin devices I have purchased, installation was tricky. The Quick Start guide was far from quick and I had to resort to reading the full manual (on the installation cd). Anyway I got it going although I remain unsure as to how exactly I managed it.
For the "home user" it all seems a little "techy" for comfort. I can print but, as with the installation, I can never be sure why it worked and there are times when turning everything off and on again seems to be the only solution. It ...
Advantages: Simple, Effective, cheap Disadvantages: None as far as I can see
I bought one of these a while ago and have been quite impressed overall. I must agree with the lady reviewer that this device is very useful and also quite easy to use.
It does accept two printers via USB and it can connect to your network via either wireless or wired networking. It supports WEP security on your network and seems to have goos signal strength attached to it. As you would expect from Belkin the device is well made and the manual makes a lot of sense.
Be aware however that not all printers are supported by the system, I had some trouble getting firmware updates to allow for my Laser printer to work on it - however Belkin have provided these on their website.
The device asks that you have the printer drivers already installed on your PC when you install the Belkin software, this isn't like normal printserver ...
Advantages: Nice looking, good selection of features Disadvantages: Can be tricky to set up, no support for bi-directional printers
The WGPS606 is an unusual combination of a bridge with a four port switch plus a wirelessprintserver. What does that do for you? Good question!
Most people would want this for its wirelessprint function, more on that later. The WGPS606's other feature is that it can act as a bridge allowing you to add wireless connections to an existing wired network. It also sports 4 network ports for adding more wired devices to it.
On the wireless side it supports both 802.11b and 802.11g as well as the proprietry Netgear RangeMax standard. It also copes fine with both WEP and WPA-PSK encryption, the latter being more secure and should be used if at all possible.
The device's main selling point though is its ability to let PCs communicate with a printer wirelessly. The device has 2 USB ports allowing you to connect and use two different ...
