I favour the A4 size, as most programmes allow you to print multiple photos and this gives you more choice, so you can print off a selection at one time or multiple small photos, perhaps of your wee one or family to enclose with Christmas cards.
I have purchased several packets of Epson Photo quality glossy paper from Costco. It comes in a pack of 3 containing 20 sheets in each packet. Each sheet is A4 and weighs 141 g. It is glossy white in colour and the back is a dull creamy, white colour, so there is no problem deciding which the side for printing is. It is very slightly thinner and lighter weight than photos developed from a photographer. This doesn't stop me using it because if you are fitting in a frame it will be fine If you intend to pass the photos around lots...
