With a scanner like this, what else would you want more? Excellent quality, simple operation and outright speed make this a clear winner.
My previous scanner gave up the ghost quite a while ago so I was looking at a new high quality scanner to use hat home. I was looking at the cheaper 30 pound models and decided to try them and they were terrible quality and very slow. I then decided to pay a bit more and got thins wonderful Epson Perfection610. Plugged it in and flicked through the well laid out instruction manual. Loaded the correct drivers and the scanner worked for the first time.
I was very impressed by the quality of the scans and also the speed. The preview scan only takes a matter of seconds to complete and produces a good image to lign up the markers ready to do a final scan. The final scan takes surprisingly litte time with thanks to its USB connection and quality internal components.
The scanner is housed in a plastic case with a heavy metal base. The internal components are well built and looks like they will stand up to heavy use. The sound is makes when scanning is very smooth and actually sound much more engineered that many of the other scanners that I have tried. The scanner also comes with a internal power supply ( a good sign of quality) and a detachable USB lead. The scanner comes with a external button that is pressed and then loads you favorite image editing program or can display a list of compatible programs. The lid has a special feature that enables you to put thick books and magazines on the scanner without any problems. The havy lid also help keep documents and scanned images under control. Microsoft Imaging is supported as standard. The manual is very clear to understand although it did have some errors inside that may cause confusion or problems to the novice. There are three CD-ROM’s in the package, there were two driver CD’s for PC’s and Mac’s and there was also an image editing suite which is ideal to the novice user.
As for the scanned images, photographs look excellent with no part of the image being too dark (under exposed) or too bright (over exposed) This makes the scanner ideal for copying photographs and other photograph type material.
Magazine print can sometimes cause moiré patterns to form especially at higher scanning resolutions. There is a option in the TWAIN driver to remove this pattern without loosing too much quality. This option is called deescreening. The scan time takes longer as this process is hardware based.
Overall I would say that I am very happy with this scanner and I would happily recommend this product to anyone.
Advantages: Inexpensive, Speed, Good resolution and colour Disadvantages: Bulky
...this I was using the Epson Perfection 610.
I purchased this Flatbed Scanner early last year at a price of around PDS.100.00 (One hundred pounds)
The scanner was very easy to hook up. Just plug in the USB, plug in the power, install the software and your done. I think it took me only 15 minutes from the time I took it out of the box.

You get very clear and precise scans with 300 x 300 dpi and it is recommended to use this for sending photographs, pictures and documents by e-mail.
The scanner itself is rather large, looking about the size of a small briefcase. While some may not like such a large item cluttering their desk, the ...

THE BASICS.
The size is 420mm long, 285mm wide, and 90mm deep including the lid/cover. The colour is your average boring computer beige as most large peripherals are. I think this is changing now as computers are being integrated into the living spaces of many homes.

Advantages: High resolution, low price Disadvantages: none
I have used the Epson Perfection 610 scanner for the past 4 months. It is a very versatile machine with very high resolution capability for its price. I have used it to copy colour photographs and print them off using a Hewlett Packard HP 840 C colour printer, on HP gloss photographic quality paper, and the end result is almost indistinguishable from the original photograph! It is very easy to use, and I am extremely pleased with it. I am glad I did ...

Advantages: cheapish, fast, high quality Disadvantages: TWAIN L a bit dodgy
I bought this scanner several months back, and in general I am very happy with it.
First the good points:
600x2400 dpi optical resolution is towards the higher end for this price range.
Pricewise, its at the lower end, about £120.
Speedwise, I have read reviews in magazines proclaiming the 610 to be one of the fastest, doing a preview scan in 6 seconds. Through using it personally, it definitely is no slouch!
Software packaged with it is good ... ...also Photodeluxe 3, which is nice!
Now onto the downside. The TWAIN interface used by the 610 is a 'Lite' version compared to its bigger Perfection brothers (the 1200's). Essentially this means that there is no zoom function on the preview, which can be a hassle, and some functionality has been lost.
Again, from reading reviews however, it seems the Perfection 610 has perhaps the best line art quality, and almost the best colour accuray at this ...

I bought this scanner about 3 or 4 years ago. It is still one of the best value for money and quality scanners around. I have had no problems what so ever with it and I use it a great deal. It will scan almost anything from photos to a picture off of a t-shirt. It will also take bulky items as the lid will pull up on its hinges to just under an inch. I put an encyclopedia (3 inches thick) in it to scan a picture for my daughters homework, I just ... ...got a perfect picture.
You can change the scanning resolution to suit anything you may need to scan. You are also able to change brightness, contrast, colour settings etc. There are specific settings for newspapers and glossy paper. I haven’t yet found anything I couldn’t scan.
If you are looking for a scanner that is simple to use, versatile and dependable then take a look at this one.
My only criticism at present is that after all these years ...

Advantages: High performance, reliability. Good value-for-money. Disadvantages: None
I invested in a Gateway Performance 650 system some 4 months ago. I purchased an EpsonPerfection610 scanner, and a HP Deskjet 840C printer separately to get away from the "cheap" packages offered by most of the popular retailers who include only low performance printers and scanners as a part of the deal. I went for a 30Gb hard drive at small incremental cost. The promise of delivery within 7 days was beaten by 2 days! The system was easy to instal, even for a relative novice. Everythiny worked perfectly first time, with no problems to date.
I feel the Gateway machine may not appear on the surface to be amongst the cheapest, but if the price of the cheapo peripherals is taken out of many of the "packages" on offer, the Gateway machine does offer good value for money. The consumers association also rate it as one of the most reliable ...
