Epson SR-600 - C 733 MHz - 12.1" TFT

Advantages: Little etter than my old one
Disadvantages: Not great

...I owned an old Umax Astra 600P scanner which seemed agonizing slow, though quality of the output seemed very good. I read about the Epson Perfection in PC magazine which gave it Editor's Choice award so I decided to give it a try since it was available at buy.com with a £20 off coupon. To my disappointment, it 's not much better than my old Umax scanner. Somewhat faster, but no better output on my HP 733c printer using premium photographic grade paper. Also, the accompanying software, Adobe PhotoDeluxe, would frequently crash the computer requiring a hard boot. (I'm using a new Dell 733 MHz computer and after using my own software the problem disappeared, so the problem was not the computer). Also, scanning at 1200 dpi takes FOREVER and the photo didn't look ANY better than at 300 dpi.... Read review

Advantages: CD/RW drives
Disadvantages: Expensive

...This is the latest model from ACER and it features plenty of computing power aiming at the corporate business users. It comes with a CD/RW drives which is very new options in mobile notebooks. Apart from that, it has entium III/650MHz Speedstep processor which is faster than the previous 600TER having a 600MHz processor. It weighs only 2.5kg, which is average for notebooks and has all the standard features of advanced notebooks: 64MB RAM, 12.1Gb IBM harddisks, 13.3in XGA TFT screen, 8MB ATI Rage graphics and other standard accessories. I am impressed by the look of this notebook. It has a magnesium alloy lid protecting the screen and the strong body case. It is definitely the best and powerful notebook so far from ACER.... Advantages: reliable

...I was looking for a entry level, reliable laptop and found it in the Travelmate 508T (500mhz/64MB/4.8GB). My £1000 limit excluded me from some of the smaller or lighter units but this model offers the perfect combination of price and portability (bear in mind the weight is over 3kg). The laptop has an internal 3.5" disk drive and an internal 24 speed CD-ROM. I have found the laptop to be of a solid design, with a good quality keyboard. I use an external mouse when I can but the touch pad is perfectly acceptable when I am on the move. My laptop came complete with W98SE software.... Read review
