Epson C46 Printer
Basics
This printer is a fair few years old now but is still worthy of a mention. I picked mine up for next to nothing, I can't remember the exact price but I seem to remember getting change from £40. It connects very easily using a standard USB cable which does not come in the box.
Quality
The print quality isn't amazing, but for such a low price printer is perfectly acceptable. Useful for draft printing in black with occasional colour but not so grand with photographic material.
Printing Speed
The printing speed is actually quite fast. There are a few issues, however. Firstly, the printer driver seems to take a long time sending the document to the printer. Secondly, once the printer begins, it may start with a cleaning cycle. This all takes time and although manufacturer figures make the printer seem quick, it isn't in reality. Sometimes, the printer has even finished printing the first page and the printer then waits for the computer to catch-up - sending documents can be that slow!
Noise
You can't write an Epson review without mentioning the noise of their printers. This one is no different, fairly noisy. Not as bad as old dot matrix printers, but probably one of the noisier inkjets you can buy.
Build Quality
Cheap and nasty. The plastics all feel cheap, it feels as though the two buttons will fall off at any minute. Having said that, nothing has broken on mine over the few years I have owned one.
Size
The printer is slightly wider than a sheet of A4 (perhaps 4 inches) and will take about 10 inches of deskspace front to back. You will need more space than this as A4 paper does not fit on the out tray without the it being pulled out fully.
Printer Driver (Windows XP)
The printer driver is for Windows XP and has various functions including the standard ink level monitor where you can see how much ink is left in each of the cartridges. Easy to install, it does sit there all the time on the right hand bar (near the clock).
Cartridges
This printer takes two cartridges, black and colour. They are usually easy to fit when the printer driver advises you to change. If you change at any other time it can be a bit of a pain to get the printhead to the centre where you can access the cartridges. The printhead normally stops at the right hand side, under the plastic casing which gives no access to the cartridges.
The price of the cartridges hasn't been to bad until this year when Epson have increased their prices dramatically. Compatibles are available and are much, much cheaper. This is one printer where I would recommend that you use good quality compatibles due to the fact that they are cheaper and that the printhead is non-replaceable. Poor quality cartridges can block the printhead, thus damage the printer.
Conclusion
Useful For
This is useful for anyone looking for a cheap printer that can print in black with occasional colour. Also, it is a good choice for anyone on a very tight budget.
Price
A kind of printer that should show itself on eBay or car boot sales at bargain prices. New ones were not that expensive, so budget £20 to £25 for one today.
Advantages: Good quality Disadvantages: cant think of any
...I had my old Epson c20 for over a year and to be honest it was beginning to look a bit shabby at the side of my computer. Unfortuately I don’t have much room and my printer is both a printer and a footstool. But the day had come that the old c20 was going to get taken to the dump and a sad day it was as I had become really close to that printer.
However a new love was about to enter my life, the Epson c46 and she was going to make that c20 look ... ...consider when you buy an Epson c46 is that you don’t get the usb cable with it but you can get one of these at a good computer shop for just over five pounds.
It was the big moment, it was time to test her out and see just what she was capable of. I printed a few Word documents just in black ink and the results were great, so now for the big test. I put in the special photo paper and decided to print out a photo of myself and that took just a bit ...

Epson C 46 Stylus inkjet printer is a perfect little workhorse, for family use.
I through out my old printer as the cost of replacement cartridges was running to a scandalous high price, If your kids are anything like mine, they have got to print out everything they see and read on the net. From stories, pictures, covers and song words etc: well you must know how expensive it is to keep replacing ink.

Advantages: Neat And Compact Design Disadvantages: None Found Yet
I have recently bought the Epson C46 inkjet printer. I did have the Epson C44 before, but was ruined by an accidental cup of tea finding its way into it.
This new version is much neater, and compact than the C44. The general design beats the previous model, as it looks, and sounds (mechanically) much nicer.
Comes with a good range of software, along with the drivers, the CD-ROM includes the fabulous EPSON Photoquicker 3.5 Photo enhancement print ... ...exit tray.
As with most Epson printers the replacement cartridges are reasonably priced at only just £11 for a genuine COLOUR.
The installation guide is basic, and cartoon type, but as the printer is simple to install, it covers the setting up procedure adaquately.
The main manual is on the CD-ROM itself, so theres no need to store wads of huge paper books.
New with this model is an interactive manual which install itself with the main software, ...

...all the other big companies, Epson are constantly releasing new products so availability may become an issue.
I print photos onto glossy paper and the quality is fantastic, even held close up you can see where the printer really fills the picture with the detail matching what you see on the monitor. Some compatibles I have tried gave poor quality as they sacrificed the quality for profit quite clearly. I won't mention any companies on here because I'm not here to slate or moan about them :-) Best way is to go by friends, reviews and recommendations to get quality like anything else.

Advantages: its fast and its of a high quality Disadvantages: takes a while to switch on
I had never been lucky with printers. When I first purchased a printer I went for the lemark printer and it stopped working. I took it back then it stopped working yet again! I was beginning to get fed up with lemark printers when it happened a third time so I decided to try the Epson make.
First of all I tried the Epsonstylusc46. It looked really stylish and small I loved the look of it. On the first night I had got it I needed to type some work up so I used it, but it dragged all my paper in at once and stopped working properly and made loud noises every time I switched it on. I was so frustrated I took it back.
Now it was 5th time lucky. The person who saw my printer couldn't work out what was wrong with it. So I got the Epsonstylus photo 2100.
I had read about them that they were good for printing good quality pictures. I have ...
