The Epson C62 INKJET printer is by far the best printer I have ever had. However, I only mainly use my printer for printing out documents and spreadsheets etc, and I don’t know whether it is the best printer out there for printing out photographs.
I have previously had a Xerox printer, and found out that it consumed ink very quickly, its print quality was very poor, and the most annoying thing: It made a hell of a lot of noise! Whenever I turned on my computer it made a terrible, loud, grounding sound that reverberated around the house, and it was particularly distracting at night and the vibrations woke you up. I have found the
Epson C62 printer to be quite the opposite of this.
When I purchased my laptop from Time (Computer World), I got a special offer where I could buy the EpsonC62 printer at half price for £40 (The RRP therefore being £80).
The Printer The Epson C62 is fairly lightweight in comparison with other printers, and it is also pleasing on the eye as its smooth curves and attractive grey colour (well not most grey colours are attractive, but this one is!). Approximately 46cm in length, 24cm in width (when the front is folded up) and 17cm in height (without the paper holder). As mentioned in the dimensions, there is a flap at the front 9which can be extended) which the paper feeds out onto, and this can be folded upwards to save space – a nice little touch. Also mentioned in the dimensions was the paper holder. This can easily be attached and detached, again for saving space. In the centre of the outside of the printer is a dark grey, translucent piece of plastic which can be lifted up to observe and if necessary repair the inside of the printer, but as the sticker inside suggests, it is not advised to go sticking your fingers inside and playing around, especially when the plug is in, and the switch turned on! Also, on the top left hand side of the printer are three medium sized plastic buttons: · 1 to turn the printer on/off · 1 to feed the paper in · and 1 to change the ink cartridge
Ink Consumption Compared to my three other previous printers (a HP, a Xerox and a Canon), the Ink consumption is brilliant. I have had it now for three of four months, and the ink cartridge is only just starting to run out, after printing off around a hundred documents, so the Ink consumption is very low which is one of its main advantages compared to other printers.
Print Quality With some of my older printers I found that as the ink cartridge was more and more used, the print quality decreased, leaving huge black lines across my work. With the Epson I have, so far, not found that to be the case, and the print quality is crystal clear.
Noise As described before, my previous experience with a Xerox printer was not good because it produced way too much noise for a little printer. The Epson does make noise when you first turn it on, this lasts for a minute or so, but when printing, it is extremely quiet, well compared to the Xerox it is!
Ink Cartridges An Epson C62 ink cartridge will set you back as little as £5 with the colours (magenta, yellow and cyan) costing slightly more. But as stated above, unless you use them very frequently, you should expect to change them every several months or so. The Ink cartridges are very easy to install into the printer, you simply push the little tab on the colour you want in, and push up, revealing the ink cartridge, then you lift the old one out, pop in the new one, and push the cover back on, simple!
Other Information · The printer only has a USB port, so if your computer/laptop does not have any USB ports then you will need to buy an adapter · The printer does not come with any cables to attach to your computer/laptop; these will have to be purchased separately · The printer comes with a CD, which you will need to install to use the printer · The printer has some small LED’s, which if they flash can tell you if: The printer is on or off, whether the printer is out of paper, whether there is a paper jam, whether the ink is low, whether the ink has run out, or whether there is any other printer errors
So, overall I would give the Epson C62 printer a 4/5. If it I was to give it 5/5 then everything would have to be perfect e.g. it would make less noise, it would print faster, and it would come in different colours(!). However, the printer is extremely easy to use and install, and is best used at home where it will be used to print out letters etc, and not photographs (although the photograph quality is good). The low ink consumption and ink cartridge prices also favour the Epson C62 over most other inkjet printers.
