What is it that youy want out of an inkjet printer? - something that prints good quality prints fairly quickly and doing this quietly. After buying this model for around £60, this is what i expected, even if it was not absolutely perfect, being relatively cheap.
It is a basic inkjet printer that connects to your computer via. a USB connection. There are 2 ink cartridge slots, one for colour and one for black and white. This is very simple but it is quoted that the black & white should last for 600 pages and the colour should last for 300 pages. This is promising but its simplicity in design and features are real indicators of what i believe is a poor machine.
The first problem which i have found is that the print speed is extremely slow. Fow black & white the speed is meant to be 14 ppm (pages per minute) and for colour it is supposed to be 13.9 ppm. This is probarbly true if it printed continually but it always seems to stall mid way through printing a set of documents meaning that the speed seems to be below 10ppm.
As for the quality of the prints, i have printed digital pictures on special paper and they have turned out to be an acceptable quality. This is probarbly because the printer has a 5760 dpi (dots per inch) print resolution and unlike other specifications this seems to have lived up to the promise. Even though i have had the printer a couple of years, after continuall printer head cleaning, black & white documents tend to have distorted lines, retracting from the overall quality of the print.
When printing there are numerous options to make the most of your printer, which are very useful if you use the printer for different purposes, ie. not just for pictures. These are;
-Draft - Quick print speed but very pale colour -Text - Normal for just balck & white -Text +Image - Normal speed for general printing -Photo - Good quality colour but probarbly not the best for pictures -Best photo - What i use for pictures printing good pictures.
As well as these there are the normal selections for the page orientaion and the type of paper used. This is mainly A4, A5 and photo paper types (the printer does not print on A3 or larger).
As for the size the printer measures;
Width - 48cm Depth - 26cm Height - 18cm
This is not that big, but taking into account the fact that it doesnt do much is fairly big. It is also fairly heavy, weighing over 3KG which again makes me wonder whats in there to make up all that weight.
Even though i don't believe its a good printer, im sure other people will have different success with it but after seeing the quality of the prints from my Dad's Canon IP4200 my opinion would be to spend a bit more money and get a really good quality printer.
