We got the 740 when we bought a PC package, it was around £180, (a long time ago), and we were very pleased, it has great photo capabilities and speed for the lighter documents, so overall it is very good.
Picture Quality ==========
The picture quality on this printer is very good, but after writing that I also have to say that you have to put the settings on ‘excellent’ before the printer will print well. I don’t really think that it was meant to be a photo printer, but a document printer, but either way the prints are always of good quality, with crisp straight lines, and with perfect colour sensitivity. So overall the printer is great for anyone that needs a printer to print out things like this review, or to print out things like photographs, overall it is very good.
Printing Speed ===========
The printing speed is an okay aspect of this printer, it is very nippy when you are printing black and white things on a medium quality, but as soon as you bump up to colour and high quality the printing speed really starts to suffer. One other thing is the amount of memory the printer has, it has quite a lot so there would be no need to worry about sending loads of documents to the thing, so really it would probably be quite good for a network printer. But on the most half the printing speed is very good and worthy of a good comment in the 740’s book.
Reliability ========
The reliability of this printer is acceptable, although for about 89% of the time you are using the printer, it still occasionally has those spasms, and it starts printing out loads of Wingdings, and other odd characters. But really this only happened to us once and I don’t think it would happen again, as it has been fine ever since we first had that problem. In the end we actually thought that it might have been a virus that we had on our computer at the time. So overall the reliability of this printer is definitely very good and high.
Ease of Use =========
This printer is very easy to use; the printer has three main buttons on the front, one for on/off, one for when you have put a new load of paper in it, and one to clean the printer heads/replace cartridges. Three lights accompany these buttons; there is one for when you are out of paper, one for black ink, and one for colour ink. Another thing that makes all of this a lot easier is the fact that when you open up the lid of the printer, there is an instruction sheet stuck to the inside of the printer, which is very handy if you forgot something. If you have Windows XP, you have another great advantage; this is that as soon as you plug in your printer, XP will install it for you so there is no hassle involved at all. Overall this printer is extremely easy to use and is one of the best things about this printer.
Ease of Installation ==============
This printer is yet another one that is very easy and simple to install, as with nearly all Epson’s, all you really have to do, is to take it out of its box, remove all that annoying packing foamy stuff and set it up on your desk. Once you have done that all you have to do is plug the printer in and attach it to the computer, then after a few seconds, (on XP), your printer is ready to use. If you do not use XP, the printer comes with an installation disk, and that only takes a couple of minutes to set up. So overall this printer is very easy to install, one of Epson’s trademarks.
The Instruction Manual =================
The instruction manual of this printer, at first looks extremely thick and complicated, your thought would be completely wrong, as once you’ve opened it up, everything is explained clearly and simply, with well documented sections, and easy to understand diagrams, with labels so that you can’t get lost. It also is written it lot of languages for people all over the world. So overall the manual is quite easy to understand.
Value for Money =============
At the time when we got this printer it was very fancy and such cost around £180, this would be halved and more if you were to buy this printer today, and if you were to buy it second hand, (recommended as this printer lasts for ages), it would probably only cost something like £75+. The cartridges, are reasonable they cost around, £20-£30, and are very good for that price, I also found a great site for printer cartridges, where they cost around £8, (link at the bottom of the review). Overall this printer is of excellent value.
This printer is definitely one of the best all-rounders that Epson have produced so far; it is highly recommended to anyone seeking a printer and is definitely worth a look in.

Other Reviews of Mine on Printers =========================
Advantages: Cheap cartridges that last a while if you know where to shop Disadvantages: Doesn't function with only one cartridge in it.
The Epson 740 is one of nature's little wonders. As I write this opinion, it is sitting here on my desk just doing nothing. It is a wonder, because I wonder how it can be so useful and yet so annoying at the same time!
Allow me to explain further, with a bit of background history. I bought this printer when I first got my PC, over three years ago. At the time it cost me £179.99 from Argos, but I am sure it will be cheaper now; especially if you ... ...printer, it does everything you would expect of a colour printer. It has a good quality print, ranging from 720 dpi (dots per inch) up to 1440 dpi. You can select the quality and speed of the printing from your print menu. The faster you go, the lower the quality will be, and vice-versa.
The cartridges come in the form of one black and white cartridge, and one colour cartridge. These slot inside the printer, and changing the cartridges is very simple. ...

Advantages: Good quality for the low price Disadvantages: not much for its price range
The Epson Stylus Color 740 was the not the most expensive preinter on the market nor was it the most expensive Epson printer on the market but it caught my eye because of its reletively low cost in comparison to some of the other brands in the same quality range and even some of the other Epsons. I have not seen it print at the stated speed even at low Quality but the quality overall is very good, it can manage photos on photo quality paper that ... ...think the cost of the Epson cartridge is worth paying if you are serious about what you are printing

...to get a decent printout. Epson technical support was erratic, with the odd representative being reasonably helpful but the majority being condescending and of no assistance whatsoever. ...you need to print on epson paper to get the best results, as printing on ordinary inkjet paper seems to result in a spreading effect of the ink. Thankfully, I have two printers, one of which I use for text, and this one I use for printing excellent quality graphics and colour documents. I bought my Epson Stylus Colour 740 about 18 months ago, and it has yet to let me down. At the time it was a mid range printer and appeared to be very reasonably priced. The 740 will to print good quality photographs at 1440 dpi resolution. The standard text printing is of a high quality even on cheap copy paper. The printer has a dual ink cartridge system which I find much more economical because i mainly use black and white printing so I do not ...

Advantages: Card-reader; edge-to-edge printing; photo quality plus 10-year colour fast guarantee Disadvantages: USB interface only; a little pricey
Now let me be frank, up front. I'm an Epson 'groupie'. Not that I work for them or anything, just that after using a whole range of different ink jet printers in the past, I'nm sold of Epsons - particularly for use with photos, and my beloved digital camera.
I've just bought, then, an EpsonStylus Photo 875DC. I got it from PC World at a 'special offer' price of £249.99, rather than their normal price of £299.99.
OK, it's a lot to pay for a printer, these days, but it does have some rather unusual features - particularly for anyone making regular use of a digital camera.
I've had an EpsonStylusColor740 for a number of years, and the photo quality from it, with its 1,440 x 720 dpi resolution is outstanding - particularly on high quality papers. The 875DC uses a six colour cartridge (rather than four on the 740). The results, I ...
