+INTRODUCTION+
I've had a laptop for years now- but for some reason I have never had a printer, I have just never had the use for one- until now that is.
I'm on the hunt for a new job, so I thought i'd do a CV and some letters on the computer, and print it out with a cheap printer that I had decided I was about to buy, since I had also just bought a new digital camera, and thought with a printer I could get my own photo's done.
So, off I went and looked in the usual spots- Argos, Currys etc etc, My budget was rather low at 30-50pounds, Until I spoke to a couple of my friends- who urged me to think about paying a little bit more- "you get what you pay for when it comes to printers" I was told- but their words fell on deaf ears as I had no more money to spare.
+THE PRICE+
I went to PC World and spoke to a sales assistant, who told me, that a brand named Epson was probably the most popular brand, so I took his words with me and went online at home to have a look on their website, as for some reason my local store had hardly any printers in stock!- I found this Epson D92, it was priced at 29.99- but a web only exclusive, so not available in stores. I ordered it, which was a pretty easy task- PC World's website was very simple to navigate around. It arrived in a few days after I had ordered and it was free delivery, which is always a bonus!
This printer was only first out in June of this year, and I haven't seen it in any other shops other than PC World and a stationary store called Staples, although online sites like Amazon have it, priced at around 35pounds new and around 30pounds used. Surprisingly PC World works out quite cheap for this particular printer.
Although the printer is quite a bargain- the ink cartridges are a little more on the expensive side, and in some case's can maybe put off potential buyers, as eventually the cartridges will end up costing you more in a few months that what the printer did! (i'll go into the cartridge price's later)
+THE LOOK OF THE PRINTER+
Its quite compact, these are the exact measurements- 43.5 cm x 21.9 cm x 16.5 cm and it weighs 2.8kg.
What attracted me most was the colour of the printer, its black and it does sound shallow, but I wanted to have it in the corner of my lounge, and of course everything has to match!!
Its rectangular in shape with rounded corners and edges, and Epson is wrote in silver writing on the front.
It doesn't have a digital display and only a few buttons on it....another thing thats missing on appearances is a memory card slot- which i've noticed is something on a lot of printers now.
+FEATURES+
It features the separate coloured ink cartridges, which are apparently eco-friendly, It uses 4 in total, the colours are cyan, magenta, yellow and black- to buy them they are around 6.99 each, If you are a regular user of a printer Epson also does a bumper pack which contains all the four colours- This can be found for around 30pounds. You get a full pack of the inks with the printer- so no need to buy any straight away!
The reason the cartridges are eco-friendly is because you only need to replace the colour you use.
The printer was easy to install, and came with all the wires and connectors needed- It took about 4 minutes to install the drivers, then I was able to start using it, through the USB port on my laptop.
Also with the printer was a disc of software, containing fantastic photoshop type programs called; Epson Creativity Suite - using this you can file your photos on the computer, managing and printing them. Epson PhotoEnhance - This is very much like editing your photo's, you can touch them up here Epson Easy Photo Print - this removes red eye.
The paper tray can hold upto 80 sheets of plain paper, It is only capable of printing on A4 paper, not any bigger, but it can print on something smaller like an envelope.
This printer is compatable with Windows 2000, XP and even the modern version of windows, Vista and Apple Mac. The instruction book, is quite simple and provides an easy guide to setting the printer up- there's also a number to telephone Epson- if you really come up against a problem while setting it up.
You get a one year warranty with Epson, which you can send off for if you fill in the card that comes in the box.
+MY EXPERIENCE+
The first thing that made me realise i'd made a great purchase was the sharpness and quality of the photo's. I used HP photograph paper and I later read in the manual that the reason for the outstanding photo quality was a technology called, the DURABrite Ultra Ink. This is something that Epson have mastered and can't be found in other printers, it not only makes the photographs glossy- but also water resistent too.
What I also found useful was the fact that it prints photo's without leaving a border around the picture, Its quite amazing how the photo is exactly a A4 size, without a nasty white border all way round it!
The speed while doing photographs, isn't outstanding, but its easily in line with some of the other printers in this price range- In the best quality, the photo took a full 11 minutes to print- seems a long time, but once I saw the quality- I could forgive the machine! When I made the photo smaller, for example an average sized 6"by4" photo, it took around 5 minutes- I appreciate, for the quality, its worth the wait.......but would the waiting time have been less with a more expensive printer?- Probably!
Printing black and white writing on plain A4 is less time consuming and the printer boasts it can print 25 pages per minute- and I would think it definately can, so for me its about the best printer I could have bought for what I need it for- I will only be using it very occasionally.
There is two different ways to print in black and white, one is draft- this mode is awful and seriously looks like the ink cartridge is critically low, not only that but the writing is barely readable. I understand using the drafts setting will not be as good as the normal- but I at least expect to be able to read it! The normal mode is much better, The printing is very clear.
+OVERALL+
If you are after a printer for occasional use, then this one would suit you, however if you are looking to buy one, for regular printing I would recommend spending that bit more money, as the printing speed of the photos is time-consuming and waiting can get irritable. The speed to print in black and white is reasonable and is probably as fast as a more expensive printer, but the quality is quite disappointing in drafts mode. I have recommended it to other buyers- but only if you will only be using it every now and again!
I wish I had spent that bit more money buying a more expensive printer- my friends were right!

Review of Epson Stylus D92 printer Epson Exceed Your Vision is the encouraging slogan on the box, but did this printer exceed my vision? Read on! ==The Product== I purchased this printer from Tesco in October 2008. I had not owned an Epson printer before, my previous printer was a Lexmark, which, although I was quite happy with, the cost of replacement ink was very expensive. Having looked around and read a few articles in computer magazines, I settled ... ...and image printing from the Epson Stylus D92 printer. For a budget priced item, the results are very encouraging. I'm particularly pleased with the non smudge inks, as smudgy prints were a problem that my previous model had. As stated earlier in this review, I purchased the printer last autumn, so I feel I have been able to give it a good testing period before writing this review. The ink usage, is as I hoped much better than my previous printer ...

Advantages: Well designed body, smudge-resistant inks Disadvantages: inaccurate ink gauge, ink dries up, can't clean cartridges individually
The price was cheap. The design of the paper tray is good. This is the first printer I've had where the paper is not either dropped to the floor (my printer is on a shelf) or sucked back into the roller (Cannon) causing a jam. It had a sturdy feel. The set up instructions were inadequate and unnerving with bits of tape which I wasn't sure if I had to pull off or not before using.
Although the ink was expensive, it boasted (and delivered) a reasonable ... ...a document printed on a Cannon!). I liked the idea of separate colour cartridges.
I found the print quality perfectly acceptable and used the printer's options to lower the saturation. Draft quality was too poor to be useful but because the printer allows you save a Print Profile, I could set up a suitable equivalent. This latter feature has been very useful - I could specify paper size and orientation. It would have been more useful if it could ...

...up again, despite having all Epson cartridges in.....I've just got back from an Epson Express Centre (20 miles away!). There they took out the new Epson cartridges I had installed and which the machine was telling me were empty again. The machine accepted and worked with the replaced cartridges. So, am I to assume that that has something to do with the fact that I can't even use the Epson cartridges I had recently purchased from my supplier? Advantages: Cheap, Excellent reproduction of Graphics Disadvantages: Expensive Epson Ink, fiddly, insufficient choice of settings
As a user of Epson printers for a good number of years I was extremely disappointed with this Printer. The beauty of Epson for me has always been the low cost of Purchase as well as the ability to use compatible inks. I use mine heavily and so when it expired I could easily and cheaply replace it.
As other reviewers have said, it is probably good only for occasional use however my problem, and why I won't buy another Epson, is that Epson deny you ... ...inks the chip on the Epson D92 told me the Ink had run out on 'Black' after only a few prints. On inspecting the Cartridge it was 2/3rds full, I then had to 'trick' the Printer into thinking I'd replaced the cartridge altogether, something a less experienced user might not know how to do, and something I don't want to be doing too often either as it is tedious and should be unnecessary. Epson previously gave a choice of accept / reject along with ...

Quick review of Epson Stylus D92
I replaced my old Epson Printer with this Epson Stylus D92, I can't remember how much it cost but I had always thought my old printer was OK as the cost of generic cartridges were quite reasonable. This new printer is proving to be just as reasonable on generic cartridge price. The quality of the printout depends on the quality of the paper I have always found it to be quite good. The photo printing on photo paper is pretty good too. For the price I paid I am very pleased with this printer. ...

ink at least until the guarantee was up.
Before you buy the multipack though it really is worth looking around to find the cheapest site or shop selling it.
For instance, and I expect a lot of dooyoo readers will not be in the bit surprised by this, is that PC World is quite expensive. In fact £7 or £8 more expensive.
Of all places to find exactly the same product and at the cheapest price was yes Tescos at £22.00. Plus of course you do get tesco card points!
Yes even that sounds a lot of money but if you break it down to price each that is um £5.50 each which isnt bad.
