Here's the deal, due to modern trends and consumer demands manufacturers like Epson are now in a situation where they must build compact printers ideal for all purposes; from school projects, to home photography, web printing, poster/flier design and needless to say office documents. All this must be available whilst still offering the option to either rig the hardware to the user's computer or use the printer as a standalone device - achieved in this case via the card reader, PictBridge compatibility, straight from the scanner in a photocopying fashion or from your USB memory stick and this is made possible through a beautiful little LCD screen - approx 6.3cm. The DX7400 fulfils the above mentioned requirements with a degree of finesse which for the price makes it a must buy!
As with any Epson printer you're also safe in the knowledge of the brand's integrity - Epson are a Japanese company and one of the world's largest manufacturers of printers, scanners, computers, multimedia devices, cash registers, laptops and LCD components. They've been going strong since 1942 bouncing through a variety of technologies along the way (including watches would you believe) and have built a solid consumer relationship always incorporating quality and satisfaction. So you know that these guys have been doing what they do for a very long time now and should your product be faulty or have any issues Epson will do their best to maintain its brand integrity by helping you.
Oh, before I get onto my personal experiences with the printer I should add those considering the standalone option the card reader is compatible with: memory stick, memory stick duo, memory stick pro, memory stick pro duo, MMC, MagicGate, MagicGate duo, compact, xD, SD, SDHC, MicroSD, MicroSDHC and MiniSD. I was instantly impressed with the printer's box when browsing upon it in Staples, it advertised the inclusion of DURABrite Ultra (a sort of method of including smudge, water and fade resistance) as well as resolutions up to 5760 x 1440 and print speeds of 32ppm. The built-in scanner has a resolution of 1200 x 2400dpi which simply means that it's more than capable of fast, high quality scanning. These factors are what persuaded me to lug that little box over to the checkout. Upon getting my new printer home I found setup easy and effortless simply a case of plug in the mains, plug in the USB then install the driver! The range of software included with my buy was more than satisfactory, most notably there's Epson Easy Photo Fix which is quite nifty as it allows you to edit blemishes, restore old photos, optimize pictures and eliminate redeye, all-in-all a very useful program to have (though obviously bought applications such as Photoshop are of a much higher standard).
The print quality was (as expected) fantastic; I tested the product with photos, CD's, documents and scanned magazine pictures - though the printer did not fulfil the full advertised resolutions it came very close. I found myself having to buy refills less than a month later however I had fully tested the Stylus and printed much more than I usually would, luckily enough replacement cartridges can be bought for around ten pounds each if you shop around.
The Epson Stylus DX7400 in conclusion is a high quality printer at minimum price; it's got a broad range of features, is quiet and even runs off less power than earlier printers in the series. My only concern is that like another reviewer briefly mentioned it does tend to "snatch" the paper however if you're looking for a replacement that can do all the things mentioned then this is a great choice and I would sincerely recommend you take this piece of hardware into consideration.
Advantages: Energy saving, quiet, cheap, easy to use, professional. Disadvantages: The software is quite big.
...editing tools for that text. Epson Easy Photo Fix™ is a fantastic piece of software which can help to reduce or eliminate red eye, enhance the color, reduce damage to older photos and remove blemishes.
Because it is compact it is ideal for a small shelf or under your desk at home it measures 179x450x340mm and weights a mere 5800g.
The scanner can copy at a speed of 29 cpm and has a resolution of 1200x2400 DPI
The Epson Stylus DX7400 can be purchased ... ...This is an absolute bargain considering how well it performs and all of its features. If you are thinking about purchasing a new printer and scanner then I would strongly recommend you consider this one. The power usage is ideal for any environmentally conscious person and the ink is very cheap to replace making it one of the most cost efficient, environmentally friendly printers on the market today. ...

Advantages: A great all round printer copier for an excellent price Disadvantages: Memory cards from some cameras may not be supported
...I currently have an Epson R265 which uses 6 inks plus a Canon scanner and was sceptical about All-In-One devices. More to go wrong was my thought. But 49.99 from Staples it was worth the risk and quite honestly for the money, the quality is fantastic. At that price, unless you need very high quality results, this is perfect for Home and Small-business use.
The size of the device:
Has the same footprint as my R265 but save space from not having ... ...devices needs computer and software to scan and print. With All-in-one you switch it on and press the copy button.
Print speed is excellent and colour match is much better than the R265. I will admit that this could be down to me using compatible inks in the old printer - Get what you pay for? Maybe a lesson there.
The R265 was not renowned for normal printing as it is in the Photo-printer class but the DX7400 is designed with that use in mind ...

Advantages: Cheap & easy to use Disadvantages: A little bulky for the small home office & printing is a little slow!
...I have used the epson stylus to print photographs, which were of excellent quality, I have also printed DVD covers, invitations and general text which were all of a hight standard. I have also used the scanner option which I thought was excellent. I used it to scan old childhood photographs and now have a very impressive collection of old photograhs stored on my laptop. Using the scanner waas incredibly easy, there were a few basic steps in the manual ...

Quick review of Epson Stylus DX7400
Epson DX7400 After loading drivers I tried to use my printer and found it would not print. I tried the photo copy facility and it produced an excellent colour picture. The printer now indicated that the ink had run out. I bought new ink cartridges and the same thing happened. I returned the printer to the shop and after four days they replaced the printer.
All is now working, but I find the printer snatches the paper in a very aggresive way. ...

Quick review of Epson Stylus DX7400
Very disappointed in this printer. Very noisy. Draft quality is not really very good. And other option seems to be the perfect one. So no in between quality which I had with old printers.
Tried to refill ink cartridge and was shocked to find it is of the variety where you cannot just do this. Need to either purchase a device to fool the printer! Or download something from the internet, which I went to do, but could not find the download for my exact model. So still working on that.
Ink refills tiny and mine have not lasted very long at all.
All in all not impressed and wish I had not bought it. ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Epson Stylus DX7400"
Advantages: last long, can be bought from many electrical shops, uses Durabrite ultra Ink Disadvantages: a bit expensive when outght as a multi pack
We just recently bought a new EpsonstylusDX7400 printer as our old one stopped printing for some reason. Our new printer takes the T series Epson ink. To make everything a bit easier we just bought a T0715 multi pack ink package which comes with four ink cartridges. The T0715 can also be used with other Epsonstylus models including the DX4450, DX4000, DX9400F, DX4050 etc.
The Epson T0715 will come with four colour ink cartridges. This includes the T0711 which is the black ink, T0712 which is the cyan colour, T0713 which is the magenta colour and T0714 which is the yellow colour.
The Epson T0715 multi pack is rather expensive as we bought it for £29.99 in PC world, I guess its not that expensive if you divide that by four, as it will work out to be around £7.50 per cartridge, which I think is not too bad considering the quality ...
The Epson Stylus DX7400 is ideal for the home and small office user, offering a complete printing and copying solution. It provides high quality direct printing using either memory card slots or PictBridge, or simply used as a PC free colour photocopier.
